Windshield trim….what am I doing wrong?

Hey guys, just replaced my windshield cowl and can’t get it to fit right……seems like I have to press down too far to get the clips to set which Makes the cowl pívot on the edge of the windshield which raises the lip a bit and looks ugly and breaks the seal against the glass. Any suggestions? Will a bit of sun exposure contract this lip and press it back against the glass? Cowl was purchased at dealership, no damage, 2022 manufacture date. Installing wipers helps a bit but there are still areas of no contact with windshield.

Did you pop off the white rubber pieces on the tabs, prior to placing the cowl?

Has the windshield been replaced, is there to much glue making it "tall?"

I’ve had this car for 10 years and and 60k miles…..2nd owner. I’ve never replaced the windshield. I tried leaving tabs in hole and popping in cowl with only the black stems attached to it. I also tried installing it with the white tabs attached to cowl and clean holes on car body. I replaced the tabs with new ones also (didn’t know they came with cowl so I had bought a second set) I’m really puzzled by this, I’m very meacanicaly inclined (replaced clutch, starter, power steering rack, valve shims etc in my garage, I’ve done plenty of body work and trim work also) never ran into such a silly issue but it bugs me how bad it fits…..I’m considering bringing it back to the dealer and exchanging it…..maybe a bad/out of spec old mold?!?

          Maybe, I doubt it though.

I just installed a sedan on Thursday. I pull the old one off, clean everything out of the holes and surrounding body work then snap the new one in, no issues. If you've taken it on and off a couple times now I've found they don't always like that but usually its the mounting area on the cowl that breaks. If you are sure its installed properly I'd set it in the sun for a bit and see what happens.

Are your sides tucked in properly? There are two rubber/plastic pieces on each side.

Yeah both side aprons were dry and cracked so I replaced them as well…..saw a video on YouTube saying start from the center and work your way outward….I’ll try that and then leave it out in the sun for a few hours

I don't think BMW cares how these are stored. I've seen this on other BMWs as well. Best bet to heat it and hope it settles or get a new one under the 2 year parts warranty.
