    Car shuts off

As title says, I was driving along then the steering goes heavy, and notice that the car has shut down. Should I check anything else before I jump in and do a new fuel pump?

    thanks fellas

I would scan the vehicle before blindly throwing parts at it. If it is shutting off, there's bound to be some codes. Then from there, test things before shotgunning it with parts in hopes of fixing it.

Actually started up with no codes and was able to drive the 10 or so minutes back home without any problem. Before I took off on the initial drive before it shut off, it took a unusual amount of time to start up. Car has 124k I’m guessing original pump as well.

check fuel pressure during the first few second when key turned ON.
Also to confirm it's a weak or bad fuel pump, use the OBC dash hidden display to show both fuel tanks remain: if the left tank is more than the right tank with the total tank 3/4 or less, then the pump is weak.

Does it suddenly shut off or does it buck and misfire before dying?

            Nope, it simply shut off.

Maybe the more experienced can chime in, but I would suspect a bad fuel pump to cause the engine to buck and misfire before dying.

Maybe at idle, but for highway driving the engine uses much more fuel, so I can imagine it would die more abrupt.
The memory is a bit vague, but I had the fuel pump die on me on the highway back in 2020, and I think it was just instant engine off like OP describes.

Think I’m just going to change out the pump for piece of mind.

                    Thoughts between these two?

When my fuel pump died, it was completely sudden. No warning, bucking or misfiring, just steering went heavy and then I realized the engine was off.

Same thing happened to me when my car's fuel pump went.

Is the fuel pump priming when the key is in position 2, OP? The buzzing noise from the back seat.

I don't seem to hear the fuel pump priming. I convinced it is the fuel pump.

Exactly what happened to me as well.
