Porsche Brembo 996 BBK Conversion-- let's figure out how to fix the dust boots

Glad I found this thread. Just ordered some 996 calipers so looking for rebuild kits. Once I get my calipers and assess the pistons I will be placing my order from OPS!

Most pistons are good to go unless they went flying across the room when they were extracted!

Will update - next step is packaging (they decide how to package) Thanks for the suggestions!

Good news is Frenkit agreed to sell dust boots only. I will put them in packages of 2 when the time comes!

Ok met with Frenkit early this morning - they agreed to hear my plan of selling individual dust boots/seals - I need to gather some data and get a plan to present to them. they are used to dealing with large repair facilities at the factories so we are an anomaly to them. I'll start working on it. I'll ask for velvet lined packaging for SQ13... in the meantime I just put in another order as I want to get the 15% tariff instead of the 25% I paid last time!

I care. Replacement parts for my Porsche calipers deserve the best packaging. Jk I’d be down to buy 2-3 sets…just toss them in an envelope tbh.

This is the way, When they first contacted me I brought this up. I know we were having the issue of designing a new packaging for just the boots as they ship in the boxes. Let me talk to them again to see what can be done. Would you guys mind if they were loose? It’s just not professional (but im not sure this crowd minds :-)

Personally, I'd like a kit that is just the dust boots, not the piston seals. Suspect I'm far from alone in that. Stock piston seals last just fine.

Details on the brake scoops? I feel like I read something else from you about those but can’t remember where or when.

They're 3D printed, Porsche-style, two piece scoops designed by Bry5on. On part goes on the control arm and the other on the dust shield/shock. Dust shield piece needs to be a fairly temp resistant material (mine is PET-CF), but the lower one can be almost whatever (mine is ABS).

We'll have to see how long they last, but so they've beat all the others!

What makes you hesitant to run the shims?

ZCP front rotors are the same width as the Boxster ones, but the ZCP rear rotors are 20mm wide vs the 24mm wide Boxster rotors. Minimum thickness spec from Porsche is 22mm, which means I can run the rear pads to the backing plate with the 1mm shims in place and not worry about popping a piston out. This isn't really what the shims are for, but they do let me sleep a bit better at night.

Glad you were able to test them at the track! I would love to say they will last forever but that would not be honest. Silicone, like other components in the braking system, will eventually break down over time and heat cycles. Thats just the nature of the beast. They will for sure outlast anything out there by quite a large margin. AP Racing, Alcon, wildwood, etc all do not have dust boots on their calipers for a reason but that comes with a sharp hit to your wallet!.

Dust boot only kit would be great! I'll have to swap these out at some point, so being able to just buy the dust boots would be nice.

If anyone has some 44 dust boots they need let me know as I have extra that I'm giving away (pay for shipping). I would love to have someone with a 36/44 caliper (porsche) put one of Frenkits dust boots along with the ones they have been running just to show the difference in quality. Or anyone with an SRT...
