    E46 M3 tpms x60003 to x6011 question

    2003 (12/2003 build date) M3 convertible SMG

On my E46 M3 engine harnesses connector x60003 has a wire coming from pin 19 to connector x6011 which is an 8 pin engine connector that plugs into an 8pin body harness connector in the DME box

This wire going from pin 19 to pin 8 on x6011 is the TPMS initialization wire and it's yellow with a black stripe.

Vaguely remember on the older MK20 m3s that the E46 M3 chassis x60 11. Body harness connector had a matching receiving pin on pin 8

The car I'm working with is a 2003 MK60 M3 convertible. I pulled the complete body harness and engine harness and I'm retrofitting pieces into my wagon

The switch center harness has pin number two and I pulled that wire manually from the M3 body harness. It goes all the way to pin 40 on the MK60 harness. That is the TPMS initialization reset switch.

And on the M3 convertible body harness connector x6011 does not have pin 8. It's empty but the engine harness side x6011 does have pin 8 yellow with the black stripe that's going to connector x60003

So it doesn't make sense unless BMW just leaves that wire on all of the engine harnesses even though it's not used possibly on the MK60 cars.

    I'm attaching a few pictures.

First picture shows the S54 engine harness DME connector x6003 and you can see the looped wire yellow and black going to x6011 pin 8.

And then the second and third picture are the matching x60 11 body harness connector from the M3 body harness and it has nothing in pin 8

And the final picture is the switch center harness from the m3 body harness showing pin 2 which is blue and magenta and that wire when all the way to the DSC module pin 40 which I pulled.

So I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything cuz it makes no sense why the engine harness has the TPMS initialization wire present on the engine harness but not actually going to anything on the body harness side.

Engine side harness likely just wasn't updated or the one on your car is an older prefacelift part (since donor is a 2003).

As you said, MK20 cars have the wire running to the DME and MK60 cars have it running directly to the traction control module. Should work just fine as is.

Thanks for confirming that, I guess it's just another byproduct of midproduction changes. My sedan also has a 2002 s54 engine that also had that same engine harness I believe.

I'm going to take a guess that 2003.5 cars engine harness doesn't have that wire.

Another weird thing I noticed was when I was trying to retrofit the HK system, the convertible had HK audio system and according to the TIS pin 19 on the switch panel is supposed to be a direct wire from the switch panel to the amplifier via another connector behind the dash.

Well, pin 19 is empty on the switch center even though the car had Harman kardon amplifier speakers etc.

So now that makes me wonder if the hifi button in some cars was activated through the k bus, not through direct wire even though the TIS doesn't mention anything about that unless you're using diagnostic equipment.
