    Driveshaft CV joint.

I’m in the process of doing my subframe. When I pulled my drive shaft I noticed the grease inside the cv joint was pretty nasty. I was looking into replacing the joint itself and noticed in the kits there is a grease cap that comes with them. I don’t have a cap and I don’t believe anyone has ever had the drive shaft off. Is this normal

The M3 does not have that cap. Clean the snot out of it with brake cleaner and then repack it with Castrol Optitemp 2 LN 584 LO (BMW # 83190447919). https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...0g-83190447919

And be sure to replace the gasket while you're at it. https://www.fcpeuro.com/Parts/?keywords=26111229503

I’ve wondered about this - BMWE46M3 thanks for the link to the grease.

Do you use the entire amount (100 grams tube)?

No, it didn’t take that much. I applied as much as I could and tried working it in but still ended up with a lot left over.

You should remove the snap ring and boot clamp, clean it all up, fill the boot with grease, and then slide the joint back on. Finish packing it with grease. Should be really messy.

You can reuse the snap ring, you’ll need a new boot clamps.

bigjae46 - please point me in the right direction to get a boot clamp; where do I get it?

Fill up the boot and CV with grease and then slide the CV joint on. A whole bunch will come out. Its gonna be messy.
