    Engine/Vanos Noise Help

Completely overhauled Vanos 1500 miles ago. Everything has been running great, no issues on vanos test and no codes.

Tonight got back from a drive car was fully warm and had it idling before pulling into the garage. Starting hearing this noise coming from the Vanos area, no codes showing up. Just trying to get any ideas before I start taking everything apart.

VC off, look to make sure pump disk 2 driving tangs are intact. Also check chain upper guide and tensioner.Does it have the stock pump disk or drilled with smaller 2 holes?

Has a redrilled pump disc and upgraded Beisan hub. Also Beisan upper chain guide and brand new OEM tensioner.

Started the car yesterday and drove it slow around the neighborhood until fully warm. No noise. Still plan on taking VC off when I have time.

Have you changed lower oil pump chain guide?

          Haven’t touched the oil pump.

only upper timing chain guides. 3 and 4 in the diagram

Number 13 could be broken and oil chain hits oil pump Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	57.9 KB ID:	255058

Then the noise should be continuous.

                Update: Noise still present intermittently.

Took valve cover off. Checked timing and valve clearances all seem good. From what I could see into Vanos everything looked ok (hub, timing chain, guides).

Re-installed VC, new gasket. Still getting noise after warm and idle only. No fault codes, car runs smooth.

Reached out to Beisan to see if they have any ideas. changed oil and had normal blackstone analysis.

Is there anything in the Vanos that runs/turns intermittently? Noise is only at idle and not heard with increasing RPMs.
