I found a 2002 M3 convertible with about 105k miles and all of the options I desire with a price around 9k, which seemed low to my eye. I called the used car lot and the guy there said they were listing it at wholesale because the check engine light is on and they've done some first-level research on the codes, yes multiple codes, with no joy resolving. They're selling cheap to get it off the lot. I checked the Carfax and everything seems to be in order except for a few emissions failures over the years; each with a subsequent pass. I've thought about calling the dealer back to get a listing of the codes to research but wanted to come over here first.
Am I off my rocker for purchasing this car on the hopes I can get the issues resolved with the amount of money I'd expect to pay for upgrades on a lesser model? Should I just run away and not look back at this money pit?
Thank you for the sanity check!
