I bought a project for $9250 and im around $15k deep into repairs. I did all the work myself except for the rod bearings as i didnt have a lift at that time. I can tell first hand you can buy a car in good shape for 25 or in poor shape for 25 plus your time. I wanted a project and my car is my hobby. If you arent willing to do the work, paying for everything will make you resent it, unless thats what you want to do. LSB is cool, interior color is easy to change, parts are wasy enough if you have the tools and time. But if you just want to drive the thing, go buy one thats been taken care of.

You checked it out and drove it?

Had the car checked out, it needs a lot more than I initially thought. Shop recommends to have the car compression tested. Car had difficulty starting warm while there. Rear diff is leaking was told looks like it has been leaking for awhile. Noticed noise from rear end on tight turns. Rear wheel bearing need to be replaced. E brake not engaging. Rear main seal appears to have a leak. Clutch engaging very high, throw out bearing noise. Control arms worn, engine mounts need to be replaced. Owner is looking for 24k as is, and has seen them sell for 40k plus. I said those cars have had mostly everything refreshed and are turn key. I told him I’m going to go through and have the car refreshed mechanically and cosmetically. My offer was 16k which I feel is still too high for it.

Holy smokes. This car is going to need a lot of work. It sounds like it was driven and not maintained, or barely maintained.

Did you provide a cost estimation to address all these things with your offer?

And you're right. Anyone who would buy this car at 24k is, quite frankly, a fool.

If all those issues are apparent today, just imagine what is lying in wait tomorrow.

Also the big 3 will need to be done. On the subframe there are no popped spot welds on the left wheel arch. No visible cracking on the mounts. The mounts where not dropped to know for sure.

This is exactly what I said, people in New York think everything they own is made out of solid gold. Owner is higher than giraffe balls if he thinks 24k is fair. 16k is also a foolish offer, run don’t walk.
