Yeah, also agree with this. On the street, you really can't use 2/3 of its capabilities legally. In terms of tuning and overall ability to make power and speed, it seems out of this world.

Driving solo without competing against more modern car, your not going to beat the experience of the e46 m3.

18 years is a long time to have tenured over an automobile. I applaud the brand loyalty, you're a better man than me in that sense. Good on you for sticking with a manual, but that's about it. I think if you're in a different point in life this car may make sense.

BMWs current roster of automobiles is deplorable in terms of design and overall direction... nah its not worth it to talk about honestly.

I hope you own it for another 18 years and 216,000 miles with as many memories as the 46

That is a great spec and color. After driving one of these on track, I experienced first hand what an absolute animal the G8x platform is. I'm sure you will have a blast with this thing.

To think, I got rid of my M4 CS and kept the E46 M3.

Waiting for my Sportster CS's to arrive and then I can finally drive it again!

              So true lol.
I've seen it happen many, many times, and I'm guilty of it myself.

Have always liked the side and rear silhouettes of these, the front end is unfortunate although I do think it looks better with a euro sized plate breaking up the massive nostrils.

Might not conform to our definition here of a pure NA driver's car, but those power figures are hard to argue against, and the engineering that's gone into vehicle dynamics to counteract the weight increases is very interesting.

This spec G82 only weighs 250-300 lbs more than an E46 M3, which isn't much considering it has two turbos, way more airbags and safety, a chassis that'a over 2.5x stiffer and can handle 1000+ whp on the stock drivetrain. It's similar in weight to an E90 M3 with a DCT.

Interesting, TIL. In my mind I guess I was thinking about the current M5 and assuming the M3/4 had gone the same direction in terms of weight.

I'm sure it's next-- already came for the M5 and M2.

I did the same thing with an M2C. Purchased brandy new in 2020. Sold that pile after 9 months and went back to an e46 M.

Curb weight is closer to 3900 lbs.

I drove one and the S58 is breathtaking! Kind of like the E9X M3, it's at another level over 80mph but the G8X keeps going and going. The interior is really, really busy, its like the spaceship version of the F8X...both iDrive versions. Unlike the F8X, the G8X is really comfortable during normal street driving.

There's one hang up with me...its so ugly. Hideous and hasn't grown on me at all since it came out.

I've instructed in a couple of G8Xs, I don't think it's as fast around the track as an F8X in stock form. It seems like a real handful especially if its in sport or sport +. Maybe its the drivers but we seem to get passed a lot for it being an M car. In the past, M cars in all run groups were at the front of the pack.

Why did you think it was a 'pile?' haha I had a M2C, and got rid of it after 2 years, could never really love it

Interesting, this company made a redesigned bumper. I imagine there's only so much you can do with the design constraints of the hood, headlights and everything behind, but it ain't half bad considering the original design is a pretty low bar.
