Parts availability for E39 M5 - what's the status?

BMW are doing the opposite, preferring to focus more on recycling our cars for new maybe ?

600 lbs lighter than your M5, and has rack and pinion steering (unlike the m5). Good odds it handles better

My ideal e39 starter chassis would be:
-Euro (so comes with the the euro dash/good center armrest, and so no sunroof is possible)
-no sunroof
-no fold through seats (chassis stiffness, not that the e39 lacks in that to start with)
-6 cylinder (R&P and subframe set up for 6 cylinders)
-manual (just to make the swapping more already done)
-M sport (pretty bumpers)
-from a country that doesn't have enough winter to salt the roads

... and I may have to do this. I'm pretty sure it would just be the perfect DD for everything I want.

May it also be said that B46/B48 (and B58) swaps are becoming a thing. Strom/Garagistic/Garageaholic are offering retrofit parts for E30, E36, E46. That would certainly overlap with an i6 E39, and even be even lighter

As someone who's going through it right now with my E39 M5, stay away.

Parts cost is horrendous, availability is shoddy at best, options for upgrades are limited and costly and it's getting worse.

In theory it's an amazing all rounder, but actually building it, you're gonna be into the car for way more than it delivers.

I've had mine since 2018, bought from the original owner, and it's an amazing car.

I DD'd in Boston to work everyday for 3 seasons (no winter) for 4-5 years.

I WISH I spent the money to restore it years ago but I was enjoying it and using it back then while I was building my E46.

I am paying for it now and it's fucking angry lol
