Hello gents, has anyone heard of an E9x M3 steering rack swapped onto an E46 M3 before? I reckon some modifications/retrofitting of some E9x parts aside from the rack itself will be necessary but I’m confident that a 2.4 lock-to-lock ratio from the E9x would completely change the feel of our cars coming from our 3 turn lock-to-lock ratio. Please point me in the right direction.

It's a bit more complicated than that, just because the E9X rack is 2.4 lock-to-lock on an e92 doesn't mean it would be the same on the e46 - you'd have to do some math. I'm also pretty sure the e92m3 has a variable rate rack as well.
The Z3 and Z4M racks are both 2.7 lock to lock and are direct bolt-on. You can also run a SLR speed e46 tie rod which will quicken up the steering, but give you more angle at the same time.

Skip all of that and get a black tag rack from LPSR.Originally posted by 1spool View PostI appreciate the insight, the upgraded tie rod combo + Z rack combo could be a hit.
