    Oil Cooler Options

Wondering what people are doing now the OE oil cooler is listed as NLA. Initial inspecting shows I have a small leak on the right side (passenger) front of cooler. So just started to look at options. Car does not need to be upgraded as needing track car demands. I see the do88 and the CSF 8032 being the more common options. Although I often go with a more performance replacement with some parts being replaced. I don’t think I need much at this spot. I’m actually really considering a good used OE cooler. Which brings my next question. Does the OE oil cooler have issues with failure points? Like at any joints or rows? Not seeing memtioned in initial Searches. Because if this is the case then aftermarket may be the better choice. Thanks

Used OE oil cooler should be fine, preferably not one from a blown engine. Even then, there should be a good method to flush these things.

Aftermarket coolers are five times the price if not more, not to mention some have a higher oil capacity and you have to add more oil to the system. The aftermarket ones also might not fit the stock shroud.

I wanted a new one as my original one was disintegrating. I went with DO88, was cheaper than one from BMW and is a really high quality well made product.

As for failure points mine was like a sagging radiator, a friend of mine had total failure (luckily while parked).

Well I don’t like the idea of putting a possibly worn-out already fatigued oil cooler back in. But I do want to keep the stock look and shroud in this case. If I can get a good low mileage and fatigued stock oil cooler that’s my route. If not then will just buy the CSF and install. BMW discontinuing the OE oil cooler is a hindrance. Wish Modine just made them still.
On a side note there’s a company (Winner Racing) basically making a replacement in size and layout to OE. Runs about $261 shipped, but from China. Although even the CSF says made in China too.

Anyone have experience with the “Winner Racing” oil cooler?

Interesting. Looking at the pics, I'd question the weld quality. An ugly weld can be a good weld but some don't look like they're fully penetrated which is a functional issue. That would be a much bigger concern than appearance. The weld on the end tank looks like it is just sitting on top, no fusion. Not an expert either so keep that in mind.

Another option is Litchfield, UK based company. OE fitment w the shroud. I replaced a leaky original unit with theirs about 2 years ago, it does the job.

It appears this is the same radtec cooler euroconnex sells for markup lol

Nice, went to their website. With conversion rate and shipping to west coast USA it comes out to $414.
Looks like a very good quality type option for the stock one that’s NLA. Wonder if anyone besides ECX is a distributor of Radtec coolers for faster delivery?
Then again for $135 more the CSF is an upgraded larger cooler. So I can see why some would prefer that route.

I see a lot of negative press on the CSF radiator, though the animosity doesn't seem to spread over to their oil cooler. I'd still probably go do88 over CSF based on what I've read on this forum, but curious to hear how this shakes out for you.

I see them in stock at BW for $686, I love to hoard parts but that's a lot of money for that and it would seem a D088 is ok for a streetcar as I understand. If BW really does have them save one for me if I change my mind!

I just checked and the part number for the oil cooler is technically not NLA but it is backordered with no ETA. It’s possible another run will be made if there’s enough demand.

Yeah I did notice the welds and piping not looking too pretty. But if it leads to a functional issue not so good. Figured since they’re part of a radiator company they still knew what they’re doing. But made in China might mean..not so much.
