    Ohlins RTs

Hey gents. What is everyone seeing as far as reliability goes. I have 2k miles on my set which i purchased from Andrew at Lang, roughly 3 years ago. I was tearing down the front suspension to check for a noise I was getting on sharp bumps. Looks like at least one of the front shocks is leaking. These were mounted without the 3ds spacers using turner mounts. These have to go out for a teardown and rebuild to 3ds. For those of you that used the tms mounts. Which spacers were used to mount them to the strut? Thanks on advance.

I haven’t had any fun running the Ohlins r/t suspension on my 996 Porsche also

They are leaking from the shaft seal. There must be another seal under the shaft wiper. I purchased these in Dec of 2022 and installed in March of last year. Lately the front felt also very loose despite everything being brand new. For clarity, this is a 330 zhp with a full m3 swap including all suspension bits. I plan to contact ohlins today. However, my understanding is that they got hit hard by Helene and they may be closed still so I might be SOL. One thing is for sure. Anything made during the covid period is not up to the usual standards and the ohlins pedigree may or may not carry the same weight it once did.

They are already on their way to Ohlins. Brian Fowler is the automotive division product manager so I bypassed the line and went straight to him. They are due to put them on their shock Dino as soon as they arrive.

Feedback like this is one of the reasons I am afraid to get Ohlins and have decided to go for PSS10's. Just getting too old for the hassle LOL

Not like I have never seen Bilstein shocks leak. And those are not easily rebuildable...

A damper is a complex product with manufacturing tolerances. Customers don't like that part, but shit happens.

Yeah but ohlins support all the way out here is going to be a nightmare where as I can call my supplier and get a new set of BILSTIEN shocks shipped to me in warranty and be here in 4 working days. The convenience for that and KWs as well in my case just wins.

Ever get to the bottom of what was driving the leak?

Different suspension, but the H&Rs on my 911, and Bilsteins on my S14, started weeping after only a couple thousand miles on our rough Seattle roads. The trade-offs needed to run highly-damped, short-travel suspension on the street don't seem to favor longevity.

Sorry for the late response. The shocks went out and got taken apart and inspected and put to their paces on the shock dyno. Nothing out of the ordinary was reported and the bushings within the shock were all within tolerance, if not a tad tight since the suspension has so little use. They got re-assembled and sent back. Since the front shocks are inverted, they use an assembly grease which tends to thin out and leak a little when the shocks get hot, so that is what I was seeing. Shock leak would occur at the bottom of the rebound adjuster is. I did chat with those guys at length about stack heights and preloads etc. I did not use the sleeve spacers when I mounted them as I did not see a need. One thing I noticed which would be a potential source of noise was the large washer that sits on the shock. Due to its large diameter, it could potentially interfere with the mount body under certain loading conditions. That one is not entirely needed with the turner top mount so I eliminated them on re-assembly. Other than that, not much else to report. I will be installing them tonight, but no conclusive evidence so far unfortunately.

Ohlins recently sold to Brembo FYI, so support would potentially become better. For me, dealing with the guys in NC was a breeze and they were very helpful.
