It looked like the pcb had been dipped into the conformal coating which had left the pins for the connector uncoated. So those were quite straight forward. For the other pins that were covered with confromal coating, just touched them with the hot iron and melted the coating away while adding a some amount of solder.

      1 week update.

I have started the car on over 60 separate occassions over the past 7 days without any times where it has failed to start. Today, I took my first trip where I turned the car off when I arrived at my destination knowing that if it wouldn't start that I would have to walk home. Thankfully it re-started perfectly!

I am growing in my confidence that the problem has been resolved by touching up the EWS solder joints. Sapote, thanks for your insights throughout this process--your obxervation about the EWS losing its mind was 100% accurate.

        3 week update

The car is starting every time, absolutely no issues to report. FYI, the weather here has turned cold (-15C) and that has not affected anything. This will be my last report on this unless the issue re-occurs. Thank you to everyone who followed along and to those of you who contributed along the way.
