How many studs came out during your header install?

I had all 18 come out last night lol. Really wishing I had bought N54 studs, got the old nuts off all of them. Will resume double nutting all the studs back in the head tonight. Not very fun and time consuming, just curious if that was unlucky or normal.

    Not abnormal.

I will remove the nut, double nut the stud and reinstall then assemble with new nuts because I am being cautious.

BUT if I didn't have new nuts I would just treat that like a bolt and make sure as you screw it in the nut doesn't start turning on the stud.

*I am not a fan of N54 studs unless you are using a header with a thick flange and then I'm still not 100% in favor.

I've done a lot of headers jobs and, usually, none or just 1 or 2 back out. I've never had more than that come out. I do spray them with penetrant when the car looks to be a little rough.

Yeah the N54 studs aren't great, as they are longer and make lining things up harder, plus you now have an N54 engine part on your S54.

That said I used N54 studs on my SSv1 headers, turns out they were not necessary. The etorx head is a nice feature for sure though.
