Initially, I considered drilling out the rivets on the heat shield and removing the lower section that's in contact with the exhaust. However, the activated charcoal plastic housing has nothing behind the heat shield, leaving a gaping hole that would expose the system to direct heat from Section 3.

My new plan is to slot the bolt holes and shift the activated charcoal plastic housing 1/4" towards the front of the car. If isn't feasible for whatever reason, I’ll trim the heat shield and attempt to tuck it into the plastic housing rather than leaving it on the outside as it is now.

I love this Section 3, but the rattling is driving me nuts. It seems to be a common problem with the SCZA/Scorza Section 3s.

(Picture below is for demonstration purposes - not my car or section 3 - just a pic of a section 3 touching the heat shield)

try a strip of neoprene along the back heat shield and a strip on the underside of the middle section of the csl diffuser.

+1 for having a leak at this connection as well. Tried reinstalling multiple times, final tightening cold and also hot, etc. and still leaks. Tempted to go to a v-band connection for the headers to section 1 connection.

Just noticed that I also have an exhaust leak at the sec 1 to header slip fit connection.

Have any of the previous complainants had success in fixing it?? Does a small exhaust leak like this affect performance?

I"ve taken my exhaust off multiple times and since installing the SS Race 63.5 muffler I've moved the section 1 a bit father down the header slip on to make the tips flush otherwise they'd be recessed inside the CSL difusor.

But still no issues with exhaust leak. Had issues with the section 1 coming off at times, issue with the threaded section on one of the hexbolts which I re-tapped. I just retighten to the point of bottoming out (pretty easy to feel with a 3/4 ratchet. Last install I used some high quality anti seize Castrol molylube).

IMO, if issues are persistent there may be some tell tale signs on the slip on section. Look for fatigue points etc. just a thought.

Thanks. My set is quite new, has been on the car 2 years, and has only been installed once from new, and I've adjusted the screws once. No sign of any damage or fatigue. But there's enough of a leak to have left black soot on the heatshield nearest the connection (on the passenger side), and of course all over where the screws are.

I haven't tried any anti-seize or sealant yet, and certainly will, but I'm asking ahead to people who seem to have tried it and failed if they've found any other way to fix it.

Honestly pretty surprised with this for such an expensive piece.

And again I ask -- does this size of leak affect performance/drivability in any meaningful way, or is chasing this more of a "it just bothers me and I want it to be right" kind of path? Googling says that generally any leaks before the cats (which it is since my sec1 is catted) is sure to affect performance, but also they also describe any exhaust leak as being very obviously audible, which this one isn't. I was actually hanging out under the car with the engine running the other day chasing a leak and did not notice at all that there was an exhaust leak. Maybe it only happens at certain points in motion when this joint is stressed?

If it was me I would just use a high quality v-band joint and forget about it.
