Blackstone Analysis Results - 2005 at 90,000 Miles

Do we have a Blackstone analysis thread still? If so please delete this, I was unable to find if so. Here are my results, this is the first time sending samples in. Anything out of wack?

Usually you want to look for high copper or lead (or both) as an indicator of bearing wear. However, one standalone test is not particularly useful. Trends are what you want to be following, not individual numbers. Ideally, you want to do an oil analysis at every oil change from the moment the engine was built. This is pretty much impossible now that these cars aren't new, so next best thing is to start after a bearing change.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but your question is hard to answer without having more data to identify trends from.

Looks good to me. Just keep sending samples. Here my recent. Slightly high on metals.

You should definitely look into getting bearings swap, especially at those mileage and copper levels. Mine didn't get nearly as high as your copper level readings, but they were already well into copper when I got mine done. Blackstone, for some reasons, don't read copper properly - perhaps copper flakes off in larger sizes that get caught by the oil filter, and therefore not show up as readily as other metals in the report?

Yea, I’ll know on the next oil change after this season. Any significant increase will mean its time.

Don't mean to hijck your thread OP
But what could cause the high iron levels?
Recently added more boost, and AFRs ran lean for a little bit while i was waiting on my new wideband sensor for a re-tune
            Could that be the cause?

Moly is just an additive in the oil - no biggy. That 200 level is about right for Castrol 10W60, assuming that's what you ran in that sample? But then again, Titanium is low, so it doesn't look like Castrol 10W60?

I believe that was LM oil, that was the oil I had put in the car when I first bought it and was afraid to do anything myself. I'm running TWS 10w60 currently.

It’s already time for yours. Now.

Copper only comes from one place on these engines, and if it’s coming then the bearings are already shot (as it’s under the lead layer).

FWIW, my engine has had copper levels around 10-13 every analysis from 45k miles to 83k miles, with consistent 6000-7500 mile oil changes it's entire life. so to me 10 looks perfectly fine.

The most important thing is the trend. Do your next oil change around 5-6k miles and do another analysis to see if the levels are similar. For me, the analysis at 90k miles, which included a couple months right before I changed the oil where the car was in a shop and probably had lots of cold starts and short duration on/off periods, jumped to 17, so I'm getting prepped for rod bearings in the next few weeks even if it's "preventative" at this point.

That's really odd then since LM don't contain any moly - ironic, I know. Did you add any additives to your oil like LM Ceratec or MOS2?

I just looked at my bill for when they changed the oil and they did indeed use an additive of some type. Now that I work on my own stuff I get to know what's in it...
