These siemens relays look real but based off the condition they were most likely salvaged out of used components.

I’ve used these! They work as they should (been two years now). It’s not a lot of work, just tedious. I had a friend who does a lot of electrical (builds his own computers and such) teach me how to unsolder the old (you’ll want a solder vacuum) and solder the new ones in.

Can you elaborate on how that's possible? The cases don't seem opened and the pins don't show any signs of previous soldering. From my review in hand, they just seem very old... which makes sense because this stock (if authentic) is almost as old as our cars.

Nice! As luck would have it, my central locking and passenger side door stopped working. I am going to have to replace these small 4 relays in the not so distant future.😅

It looks like solder on the pins.

And the other relay looks like it has old conformal coating stuck on the bottom of it or distorted from heat when being removed

I’m so annoyed by this whole process that I might just buy a new GM5 and be done with it.

Seems like salvaging the board is more trouble than it’s worth in 2025 unless one can micro solder (which I most certainly can’t)

It is extremely annoying for sure. Where did you get those Siemens relays and were they listed as new?

eBay - they were listed as new / dead stock. I messaged the seller for replacements and he’s sending me new ones and in return for the old ones. The big Siemens relays are tough to find. I’ve limited my search to US only to make the returns easier.

I never needed to replace the relays. Just cut open the cover and cleaned the relay contacts, works like new.

You can still find these new? I would have thought these were way discontinued by now like everything else BMW has cut off. Before replacing yours, you should examine the condition yours is in first. The protective PCB coating can break down over time, but often you can find them still in great condition. Pull it out of the case and check the condition of the coating on the top and the bottom; it's like a clear coat on the PCB then look at the soldered connections on the bottom; is there any corrosion on any of them? Obviously humid environments or where it rains often, non-garaged cars are more likely to have issues like this after 25 years, but at the same time you can crack open a similarly aged DVD player or refrigerator and the PCB is still perfect since it's been in a climate controlled environment it's whole life.

I did this in 2011, and it wasn't worth replacing the whole board. I was having trouble with my central locking, so I only replaced the 2 Tyco relays toward the center of the board. Just remember if you replace your GM5 with a new or used unit, it will also required reprogramming.

And to answer OP question if this person Scott isn't responding, you can take this to any TV repair shop. Once I already had my board out and the 2 relays ready, a local guy actually felt bad charging me $20 because it was so simple for him to solder in 2 relays, but I told him it was totally fine and how grateful I was to have this done. Good deal for him because he didn't even have to leave his shop, and good deal for me because I paid $50 with parts to have the issue fixed.

What's up people's... So i found this service from a e46 sedan driver that does allot of DYI to his car. He's been around for quite some time as I've been following this person since 2016. He offers GM5 repair as well as Scott and i think it's a new service he's offering. The website is filled with services and products if you guys want to snoop around it. I personally have not tried him but i will since Scott isn't around and I've been checking up on this thread since I'm having door lock and intermittent window closing problems up here in winter North Jersey. Let me know what you guys think. 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Is your E46, E83, E85, E52 central locking or windows acting up? There is a good chance that the relays in your GM-5 module are failing. This service replaces the bad modules with brand new relays that will last much longer than any used GM-5 out of a parts car, and won’t need to be coded. The modul

I literally just installed ,i believe to be , a 318d module to get me by since my window were very problematic. It totally works but it's just to get me through and send my module out for repair. I assume I'm missing options..

This is true. He's been doing allot to his ride and it's really cool that he likes to oem+ his e46. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
