GM5 Repair Options (other than Scott)

Does anyone have a GM5 repair contact that is not Scott? I’m sure he’s great at what he does, but his people skills are lacking (to say the least) and I’d prefer to give someone else my business.

If there is someone on the forums that does this work, even better.

    Thanks in advance 🤝

What's wrong with the GM5? Maybe you can DIY

Passenger side window is not dropping when door is opened.

Window is also not indexing up when the door is shut. Passenger side only.

Scott has been pretty unpleasant to work with from my initial outreach attempts.

        Doesn't sound like GM problem.
        * does the dash light show door opened/closed status correctly?
        * can you close and open the window using the console switch?

To Home the window motor to teach the GM: use the console switch and move window to bottom, then move window to close and continue to hold the switch in position for 60sec. This should fix the issue if the dash shows door open/close status correctly.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes to both of your questions. The drop upon opening the door and the indexing up to create a seal upon close are the primarily symptoms I’m noticing.

I’ll give this reset sequence a try and report back

I'm going to hijack your thread since I have questions

sapote my driver's side door doesn't lock or unlock with the keyfob, but the passenger side and trunk will unlock with the keyfob. The central lock doesn't lock or unlock the driver's side door, but using the key in the driver's side keyhole will lock and unlock the entire car as expected (one click locks the driver's side, a second click unlocks all doors). I've replaced the cylinder in the driver's door already.

            Is this an actuator issue?

              1. stop using the key in the door hole to lock/unlock as you will one day need a brick on glass to get in.
              2. driver door: did it ever work before? I think the door lock relay on the GM board has pitted contacts. Just remove the GM pcb off, use x-acto cut open the top relay plastic housing, then carefully watching the inside gut and cut some more to get to the contacts, then clean/smooth them out with x-acto. You need to google to find which relay on the pcb for what.

It seems the same for R side door and trunk.

                Thanks for this!

I purchased the car from a private seller that had it unlocked in the garage - when I actually locked the car with remote it worked fine, but upon the next unlock I noticed it wasn’t opening. I stuck a key into the door and it spun, so I had to first replace the cylinder…

I’ll take a look at the GM board as mentioned. Much appreciated!

sapote - the switch sequence reset you suggested worked! Glad my GM5 is not the culprit. I’ve had this issue since I bought the car and I’m relieved the fix was so simple (and free)

                  Thank you 🫡

I had the same experience with Scott when I needed a GM5 fixed, a couple of emails back and forth, he felt it wasn’t the GM5 and that my problem was something else, I said I wanted to send it in anyway, he stopped replying.

I ended up ordering relays off eBay and replacing them myself and it fixed the issue.

I may just end up doing this proactively at some point. I’m sure it’s as simple as taking it to an electronics repair shop to do the soldering if it’s too technical for me to DIY.

Also glad to hear it wasn’t just me. I’ve never interactive with someone so aloof and generally unpleasant to a prospective customer.

For anyone looking to DIY or find an alternative to Scott to fix their GM5, here’s what I’ve found. Glad I don’t need this now thanks to Sapote but ordering these relays to have them if I need them in the future.

                        Parts required (buy on eBay):

                        • 2x Siemens V23078-C1002-A303 – These are the larger relays that control the front windows.

                        • 4x Tyco V23084-C2001-A303 – These are the smaller relays that control the rear windows and central locking.

Soldering work can be done by any reputable electronics repair shop that works on circuit boards.

How did you unsolder the bad multi pin relays?

The best way and fastest way for DIY is to use wire cutter and cut the plastic relay in pieces to expose the individual soldered pins, then unsolder each pin. If you try to unsolder the whole relay then there's high chance the process will damage the pcb traces.
Soldering the new relay is not an issue.

I just cut open the housing and cleaned the contacts, and it's been working fine over 4 yrs now.

Scott: a few years ago I was having problems that I thought were GM5 problems. From a brief interaction over email scott says that what I had wasn't a GM5 problem and refused my repair request. Further investigation proved otherwise. Due to my earlier not great interaction with Scott I decided to reach out to him from a burner account and lie about what my problem was so he would agree to work on my GM5. He did, and when I got it back it indeed fixed all of my problems.
