    Checking emission readiness

It's smog year. I want to check for emission readiness and am looking for guidance on the easiest way to do this.

I have existing odb cables used for Martyns binary tool and PA soft 1.4. I think PA Soft live data would show these values but this option doesn't work unfortunately(seems to be a common issue).

I've read the torque app works but am not clear which bluetooth adapter to get, and if there is another software available I can use with my existing cable. DIS seems quite complicated.

    Any guidance is appreciated.

easiest solution i found was just torque and a cheap compatible adapter from amazon. Also, most cheap handheld OBDII scanners have emission monitor views

Care to share which adapter? and are you using an android?

I only have iphones around which seems to be a limitation.

Veepeak obd dongle (Amazon market) and OBDFusion app for phone together is a good combo for diag and emission monitor. This also is very useful to create the log file with data such as Fuel trims, O2 sensors, MAF, etc. which are invaluable for debugging.

Ok Amazon shipped quick and I was able to test this reader tonight: link

It linked up very easily to OBDFusion iOS app for $9.99.

Here are my results with deleted and coded-out rear o2's, EGT:

According to the app it's ready. But the few "ECU does not support" items makes me wonder.

Pretty sure that’s normal, that’s what my Autel scan tool shows if memory serves.

Not to hijack this thread. Does
anyone know if the Amazon dongle and OBDFusion O.S.
would be able to RE-ACTIVATE 4-blink signal light ?

Backstory : Someone tried to help me by reading my the S54 DME ( e46 Touring s54 swap ) for error codes. Preparing for Northern CA emissions testing. He offered to update the software and recalibrate the speedometer reading. During the update the multi-blink function was inadvertently erased.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

No it can't. Use NCS-Export to code the function.

To update this - I smogged today.

For context my car has some obvious non-stock euro headers with cerakote(journal link) and HJS cats welded to the section 1(journal link). Post cat o2's and EGT hardware and coding is all deleted.

I went to a shop that seemed pretty lax after smogging my truck there. To my surprise, they pulled my car in and immediately popped a flashlight under the undercarriage. To my further surprise, they didn't say anything and proceeded to smog it.

Passed without issue and was on my way 😂 Either they didn't care or didn't know what to look for.

                        Almost had a heart attack?

I recently had a similar situation, but it took the shop more than 45 minutes to get it done. He pulled the OBD -- his cable -- twice and started the engine twice. I was a bit worried. When done I asked why it took so long, he said the DMV computer was down.
