Yeah dont use radar detectors and dont plan on using one. Climate Comfort it is then. Cheers.Originally posted by Slideways View Post
Climate comfort unless you use a radar detector or similar device. Some people say that the coating will interfere with the signal.

I think im going to go ahead and order 51317019544 the Climate Comfort/Green Stripe/Green Screen Version due to the hotter climate here......
Thoughts? Both available in BMW Germany and are the same price.

I have Ford's version of this on my car and it does not let any signals through. We tested with a uniden r8 and could drive up to the Ka band gun with no detection.
Ended up doing a uniden r9 behind the bumper for that reason but now my issue is that the GPS puck cannot receive with that coating and is not waterproof so I can't install it outside

Oh man, this really hits home. Alternators and power steering pumps on the e39 are impossible to find right now. If you can find them, you are paying through the roof. Parts hoarding is quickly becoming a reality for long time owners.Originally posted by Obioban View Post
On e39m, some parts got expensive. Some didn’t change. Worse on e39 than e46, because for lots of parts the BMW sticker part is the only option.

I’m not going to be selling the e46, but this was no small part of why we sold our e39.
I didnt realize you got rid of your e39!

I just ordered it from FCP Euro (shipment confirmed but not yet shipped). PN: 51718232894. Hope it's not OOSOriginally posted by dustyice View Post
I've tried to order from multiple vendors, all say the cowl is in stock but never received it.
Went the eBay route and regret it. Really sucks.

I just purchased (aka had them order) a green strip non-RLS windshield from my local dealership, $450, they said there was 12 left in North America FWIW.

I'm not even sure coding is needed. Without the rain and light sensor, if the LCM headlights setting is set to "auto" the lights just turn on with ignition on and off with ignition off (unless setting the LCM headlights to ON, which keeps them on regardless of the ignition setting). As for the rain sensor, when you click the windshield wiper stalk up one notch into "auto" mode, it just goes at a predetermined time, which you can adjust with the adjustment dial. So, not having the rain sensor isn't a big deal. Not having the light sensor is a bigger whomp whomp since the headlights end up on all the time but at least you won't forget to turn them off when you get out of the car quickly.Originally posted by Slideways View Post
The rain and light sensor can easily be coded (not active) using NCSExpert.

Looks like the order for the climate comfort glass was accepted by BMW. I will provide an update when I know more.

Is it certain that buying the ebay rain prizim will work or are these slightly uncharted waters?
I can get a non rain sensing windshield at my dealership for less than $500, I kind of want to hold out for what really need but also just want to get a windshield. Worst case I have an error, I don't really drive in the rain.

I don't think BMW sells the part, but there's aftermarket alternatives available. Search for "E46 K206 rain lens" on eBay.

Oh boy, I'm glad I ordered mine when I did. Got mine for $353 from NW BMW in Tacoma, WA (just under $400 with tax and "local pickup" fee of $15, which is whatever). Comfort glass with rain sensor.
