CSL oil level reading in instrument cluster

I'm a bit stumped on this one and hoping someone can help me out or point me in the right direction.

I've got a car with a Karb CSL intake and we are trying to get the oil level reading to work in the cluster. This car has been driven hundreds of miles since the conversion.

So far the cluster only displays "-.- L" nothing else has every been displayed. Getting it hot and pressing and holding the Sport button makes no difference as well.

In ISTA/D I can read out the oil level in the DME status which shows 99mm and is dead on the top of the CSL dip stick.

    I have done the following:
    • Code cluster - Oil level display is a selectable function in the OBC now.
    • Original DME supposedly had this feature turned on, waiting for confirmation from tuner now.
    • Tested a second DME that did have the feature enabled.
    • Replaced the oil level sensor (original read 105mm, new reads 99mm after an oil change)
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is it running a HP DME with complete CSL software flash? A while back, I believe a few people tried to enable the oil level feature with non-CSL software and it would only show the "-.- L".

For the quick read, are they restarting the car at operating temp and waiting two minutes before pressing and holding the Sport button?

Yeah-- AFAIK, nobody has it working without the CSL based flash (yet). This car is running a MAP sensor, etc?

Yes, MSS54HP with CSL software base file and a MAP sensor.

Have not tried that specific order. But the car has been driven to operating temp, let idle for a few minutes and press/hold the sport button. No change. Have not tried a key cycle before doing that though.

Yeah, engine needs to be shut off and restarted at operating temp. Then wait two minutes and press and hold. If that works, then the long read should work as well. It sometimes takes a long drive at a constant RPM to get that reading. Too many short trips and it will read "-.-" or it will stay at an old value.

How long of a key cycle? 16 sec until the main relay drops out or longer?

The cars has had multiple longer trips incl a 60 mile hwy drive.

Yeah, after the relay drops out should be fine.

Well the only thing I can think is the oil level sensor was bad. The client changed the oil level sensor most recently and drove the car a total of 70 miles before bringing it to me. I drove it 15 minutes total and then it still didn't work which lead me to the post. Thanks to Slideways for posting the BMW doc, I have not seen that before in any of my searching.

This last trip I got the car hot and then cruised it gently on the highway continuously for 18min, pulled over and the level was displaying. The momentary still didn't work, but I only tried it once. Now that we know it works figuring out its idiosyncrasies is easy(er).
