Question re Clutch Pedals: Rogue vs Mason

    Hey Guys:

My clutch pedal is getting wobbly and even less precise, so the obvious answer is to replace everything. Uhhh, while I’m in there, right?!

I’ve done the research and have landed on Rogue and Mason as suitable options. Both appear to be quite similar (Mason being the initial offering; Rogue following suit). Both come with the requisite brass bushings and fit my 04. Both claim reduced travel and better engagement, I think.

Has anyone compared these two? Aside from Rogue’s “pedal placement adjustment,” are they actually the same?

The clutch on the e46 is the least precise and least enjoyable in my garage. The marketing and reviews suggest the clutch pedal greatly improves the experience. I would settle for some improvement. When I got the car, I thought the CDV was still connected. It wasn’t . . .

    Thanks in advance!

I can't comment on the pedals, but I just installed a new clutch master and slave cylinder, new hose, fresh fluid, bimmerworld clutch line and can feel a slight improvement. Have you considered doing those first? I'm considering a new pedal also or new bushings to limit the wobble/play, let us know which one you decide on.

Just replace the bushings. takes a little effort but why replace it all when just the bushings are the culprit.

+1 for bushings. I think I did brass or delrin ones on my previous car and made a big difference.

This is just one stupid old man's opinion... but if Mason is the original, and Rogue is known to cheaply copy stuff and farm it out to Chinese factories, then I feel like the answer should be obvious.

Well, by the looks of it. Seems the RE is the more handsome, made out of billet cnc AL, mason is metal fab work, so just for the looks I would actually go with RE.

Good looking out. I’m planning to do all this stuff as well. I don’t dig half measures and generally favor replacing stuff en masse once removed. Nothing worse than suffering down time due to reinstalling an old, inexpensive part.

^^^ this is how I got here.

Initially, I was leaning Mason, but the RE part is much cleaner and seems to have been improved during the copying process.

The thing I can’t confirm is: does the Rogue pedal also reduce and pedal travel? RE says it is 31mm lower (thereby leveling it with the brake pedal) but I thought the Mason part was shorter and shaped differently.

Anyway, still hoping someone has compared the two or is using+pleased with the Rogue.

If I were to do it again, I would take the recommendations the others have mentions. I did exactly what halftim3 suggested and "while I was in there" I thought it would be awesome to just replace everything (addressing the concerns you mentioned). Ended up with the RE clutch pedal and my honest opinion is I was disappointed from a feedback perspective; I did not feel any difference in pedal travel. I will say it's a cool novelty item and it looks good, but for the money I would have done an OEM rebuild.

I would be interested to hear if you end doing the mod, what your thoughts are, maybe it's just me!

i need to replace the pedal as mine cracked when removing and old bolted on aluminum pedal covers with siezed fasteners, I have looked at RE and Garagistic which have one as well. I like that RE allows to adjust the pedal plate if you have wide feet. on the travel side, I dont care as I am short and in fact may be better in my case OE pedal, but the fact that it aligns on the same plane to the brake pedal confirms it will be ok, plus the benefit of removing pedal play.

so I think this is one of those mods that there is not much in between and you either buy for price or looks.

Mason pedal position (resting height) is perfect, looks factory (all black), and the travel is significantly reduced. However, the pedal effort is significantly increased - I have an old knee injury that was dormant until I got this pedal. After a short while, I got rid of it. While the height of the stock pedal felt crappy for the first few weeks, I got used to it and enjoyed the normal effort - knee pain went away. I'm not the only forum member who bailed on this part for the same reason but it could be a non-issue for you.

Also, I hate copycats. So many companies have copied Mason designs without giving him any credit. For that reason, I'd always go with Mason over copy cats. Though John has passed away recently and I'm not sure if anyone took over the business, if his products are still being manufactured. RIP John!

Finally, as some others have said, I'd simply replace the pedal bushings if I were you...

Was going to say the Garagistic option is a nice choice BECAUSE it doesn't change any of the geometry. The factory offsets the pedal heights on purpose.

😢 I had no idea. John was a great guy. I went to his shop to buy stuff and got to talk with him for a bit. Old school builder, used to work on indycars and actually understood machining and engineering. He took pride in his work and put time into making things correctly. And he stood behind his products. When one company first knocked his strut braces off I posted encouraging people not to support copycats and he messaged me privately to say thank you and he even sent me a discount code just because without knowing my username/identity online.

I'd sooner replace an OEM pedal every year than buy the RE.

Just put in the Rogue pedal. Nice piece.

I spoke with him on the phone when I bought his GTR style rear subframe brace (which many have copied since and shamelessly lied about the work they put into designing it) and he seemed like one solid dude. Here's the brace installed in my M3:

His e-bay rating is 100%! I don't think I've ever seen that but based on my experience with him, I'm not surprised at all.

I did search around a bit and it looks like all production is stopped, business is closed. His family is selling what's left of the inventory and there will be no more. If anyone does want the Mason clutch pedal, it looks like there are 9 left available - https://www.ebay.com/itm/273341389386

Make that 8 remaining! I had seen the eBay listing and pulled the trigger based on the above responses. Additional post to follow.
