not necessarily defending Recaro here, that company has lost its cachet with me even before they declared bankruptcy. years ago i purchased 2 pairs of sliders from an authorized dealer. each slider had recaro stickers with font that was slightly different. one pair of the sliders needed the mounting holes drilled out to fit the same seat. i'm fairly certain one of the sliders was a counterfeit. recaro sliders are up there with the most illegally replicated products in the auto industry so, maybe that slider that failed in the video wasn't even an authentic one. we'll probably never know
OP if you're looking to do things right, Recaro probably aint it. Try Sparco or OMP imo

Years back there was an issue I believe in the WRL facebook group where a seat came loose during a crash. And while the slider itself is not a stellar design the consensus in that situation was the supplied mount bolt washers just didn't have enough surface area and the slider itself pulled through the washer. A number of race teams added that they always use larger or custom washers to spread the load out further.

That was the top half of the slider detecting from the bottom half the slide. The hardware that goes flying is a failed side reenforcement (shoulder bolts plus slot that the sholder bolt rides in, for the length of the slide.Originally posted by George Hill View Post

If you're using recaro slides, you should really just attach belts to the chassis.

I am running an OMP HA/771 seat (yes, I know, not apples-to-apples comparison to the Recaro) with OMP side mounts (HC/731E), OMP sliders (HC/665) and Bimmerworld floor mounts (100.52.546.0003).
The combination works great and I've had no issues.
No idea about the weight vs stock seats. My goal was safety on the track.

I was wrong it was a Sparco slider, same thought should apply to other mount systems.
Hello All First a thanks to everyone that has reached out to us. Our friend and driver Robert is doing well and healing quickly. I wanted to share this with everyone here. These are/were new...

From memory, Recaro and Cobra use the same slide provider. OMP and Sparco use a different slide provider... and theirs is worse.
Slots are scary. Especially without large and strong washers.

The problem is the side mount is bolted to the floor adaptor using a class 8.8 or a grade 5 bolt and is threaded into 6061 aluminum. So the faster is only as strong as those threads in the T-6061 aluminum. What's worse is the floor mount will gall with each torque cycle on the fasteners that secure the mounts to the car. That is thin maybe 3/8" thick aluminum. Not so much here on this forum but I find it interesting that people are worried about roofs caving in on their heads but then they run these shit floor mounts.
I'm gonna brag, I made MUCH stronger aluminum floor mounts. I drilled holes in the exact location, not a universal fit slot and the side mount is bolted through with a grade 8 bolt and secured with a grade 8 lock nut with grade 8 washers. in 2017 this cost less than $60 to make, only special tool you need is a forstener bit to counter sink the holes. These are 3/4" think, probably be fine with 1/2", when you bolt the side mounts to the floor mounts, it stiffens the floor mounts up a lot.

It won't since the helicoils are inserted into the aluminum threads. It can be fixed by drilling out the threads and running a bolt through. But you still have the issue with the OE mounting hardware and the slotted holes with a minimum amount of soft, weak aluminum holding the floor mount in.Originally posted by Bebop View Post

You can bolt everything through because I did it. I guess you could go to the trouble and install threaded inserts but your biggest problem is still the area under the OE hardware that mounts to the car. As those bolts are torqued repeatedly the aluminum galls and then you have less soft material. Just visually it looks extremely sketchy. Someone had a similar floor mount fail in a rollover. Luckily the harness was not bolted to the seat. The area under the fastener is thin and narrow aluminum which might hold up in a crash.Originally posted by Bebop View Post

Not to mention they are grossly overpriced to save a couple of oz and have 10x as many holes drilled and threaded that you'll never use.
