    Inspection RACP through peep hole

    The crack actually goes all the way through ?

    There is nothing behind to support welding ?


    Would epoxy method through vince best be suited here?

    It almost looks like more of a scrape than a crack to me, although I have no clue how that would happen unless it was like that from the factory.

      You drill the ends of the crack to stop it from getting larger and then weld it. You grind the weld down and then can epoxy in a Vincebar.

      That crack that you see there is probably the common one that is typically spotted from underneath - left rear mount. It cracks right at the fold in the RACP -

        That is correct
        Here is what it looks like from below

        My question is, the mig weld will just fire into the void? with nothing there to bond to it?

          My Dad mig welded mine. The point is to set the mig welder correctly and it won't blow through. If you get some sheet steel of the same thickness you can practice to get the settings right before you do it for real.

              As mentioned it is indeed the typical early sign hairline crack. The fact that it's still fairly contained/fairly limited in length is a positive sign.

              I will get to the simple fix of this crack further down.

              But what is more worrying is the crack/crease in the upper layer. Pointed out with the blue arrows in this picture:


              That indicates there has been enough movement to affect the top most layer.

              The movement I am referring to is shown in this video. Although in a much later damage state than in your case, it clearly illustrates how the force from the rear axle affects the RACP.

              And you can see a later state of the cracking of top most layer early in the video.



              It also indicates that there may be separation at the RACP's connection to the wheel well as seen in this picture. The horizontal crack is right behind the shock at the lower edge of the wheel well tub.




              Please find information on that, as well as guidance how to properly inspect the underside for damage in these videos:





              In any case you should not wait any longer before you properly address the RACP issue.
              The damage worsens rapidly from the point you are at.

              The way to stop it is with the top side VinceBar kit. Which also includes the top front gusset cups. They address this issue:




              All that said, you certainly need to repair the existing damage.

              But it's important to understand that any sort of underside plating is only a repair and a local reinforcement.

              TOPSIDE LOAD RELIEF (the VinceBar kit) is whatโ€™s required in order to address the underlying design issues that lead to the cracking and panel separation.

              With the VinceSkinz I have developed it is easy to fix the hairline crack you are pointing out in your initial post.

              The VinceSkinz are available in different sizes.
              The amount of existing damage determines what size/stage VinceSkinz you need.

              The VinceSkinz are designed such that no welding is required. You just stop drill the cracks, surface prep and drill rivet holes, and then epoxy and rivet over the crack.

              However, for this to work the VinceSkinz need to completely cover the cracks.

              That said, here are a couple of pictures of the Stage 1/Base Stage and Stage 2 rear VinceSkinz.
              Notice how they provide plating over the crack in the fold:









              The sets of VinceSkinz include all four mounts as wellvas the spacers plus the required steel rivets.

              The Base Stage is designed for when there is very limited damage on the front mounts.
