    SMG Cog of Death

Good morning everyone, I recently had the yellow cog appear on my dashboard. The Brake and DSC light also popped up. The cog is consistent so I am aware that there is an actual problem. The car still runs and drives, turns on everytime as well. I was planning on manual swapping soon, but I would like to see if I can fix the SMG issue before taking the leap. How should I proceed with this? Thank you in advance.

I'd start with your spare salmon relay.

I’ve heard thats a possible fault. Best to start off with the easiest fix. Thank you!

Yes, definitely pull the codes first and you will see. All this combination of light is most likely not due to a salmon relay, but to the car not being able to evaluate properly wheel speed, likely because you have a bad wheel speed sensor. I had the same combination of the lights popping up when I put mismatched wheel sizes one time.

A good way to rule out the salmon relay is to listen for the pump priming when you turn the key on

car had no issue starting so pump was running fine, which mean relay is good.

Yes, read smg error codes using INpa.
