Tariffs on E88 Orders

Hi everyone - has anyone in the US ordered a set of E88s from Team Schirmer recently with the new tariff situation? If you have, would you mind sharing what you ended up paying in duties? I’m trying to get a realistic total cost before I pull the trigger.

From what I can tell, Schirmer acts as the dealer and the wheels likely ship straight from BBS. I dug into the HTS codes, but it’s not obvious which one applies:

• HTS 8708.70.25.00 (“road wheels”) sometimes shows a 30% duty.

• Other wheel classifications show 0% duty under certain “other” categories - Hail Mary, highly doubt this will apply.

• After the US–EU trade update taking effect August 1, 2025, some EU auto parts fall under a 15% duty instead of the higher rates.

Schirmer couldn’t confirm anything and told me to check with local shipping/customs, so I’m hoping someone here has a real-world data point.

The tariff schedule is impossible to figure out, and sellers are reluctant to share information (though they are likely the best informed).

I would plan for the 30% tariff unless there is a higher one that may apply. It varies based on material, so make sure it's aluminum road wheels you're looking at with the one you found.

I bought something from the UK on ebay that should have cost me an additional 50%, but was never charged. Not sure I would take that gamble with an 8,000-dollar set of wheels, though.

System Motorsports is the most expensive option at this point coming in around 8300.

Slicer is 7900 + shipping so about the same price.

Schirmer with the 18% off promotion is 6400 shipped. The import duties is the biggest question mark.

Thanks for the insight. Schirmer is based in Germany, but they do have a U.S. branch in Illinois. I’m trying to figure out whether ordering through them and having the wheels come from BBS USA instead of BBS Germany would avoid the import tariffs.

UK tariffs aren’t relevant here, but the 30% vs. 15% rate tied to the August agreement between the U.S. and Germany is still pretty murky. Given how many vehicles we import from Germany, I’m hoping it ends up being the 15% rate, but that’s still unclear. Like you said, the whole situation is confusing.

Spoke with Thompson for about 45 minutes this afternoon. He was exactly as advertised - great guy, no hard sell at the end of the call - and even offered to jump on another call to close the loop or explore other options if I have follow-up questions. Thanks again for the vouch 9kracing

We went over my use case, driving style, and needs, and landed on a spec that I think makes sense. My biggest hurdle - after price - has always been the over-the-top Motorsport specs that have become standard for this platform, which demand excessive camber, fender mods, and spacers just to clear suspension components - way too much drama for a street car.

Thompson can build exactly what I want and offered a lot more flexibility than the alternatives. Highly likely I order my set from him.
