Don't think for a second I was saying it was too much, or not worth it.

I know what it takes to build a motor at that level, like Chris said they don't even have much overhead built into it. The parts themselves are what causes them to be so pricey.

    I totally get it.

Doesn't make it any less eye watering when you think about how much it'd be to actually get a running version into your car.... You still need a clutch and flywheel, spark plugs, header, intake, yada yada yada... if you were to just say "put a stroker into my car" I could see it cresting 40K easy. And someone willing to spend this kind of money is doing it right, so probably well into the 50s.

The kitchen remodel will have to wait indeed.

I feel in the future when someone decides to do a 'restomod' (not that I think these need one), I feel like this would ground zero i.e. ballistic NA build (reliable) with lightweight flywheel and the headers that are being analyzed, who knows where we will be in a year and what other water shed moments may appear.

Really excited for the S54 platform, i thought it was done being improved upon but here we are 🥂

The part prices from Arrow are a bit much, $3,400 USD for a standard design set of H-beams. Like really? They are no Pankyl's ......

I did not mean that...I apologize it came off like that. High quality workmanship is rare and hard to find. Moreso in automotive where there are many scammers and wannabes.

Those people who make high quality stuff aren't gonna be cheap.

I know the build prices are high; parts are expensive- they make up the vast majority of the cost, and quality work takes a lot of time. The crank and rods alone for the S54 Stroker are nearly $11,000. There are other cheaper crank and rod options, but they are not as good as Arrow Precision. Then Schrick cams, their followers, which MUST be used with their cams, and valve springs/retainers are another $8700. Nearly $19,000 in parts right off the top. That doesn't include the cost of the timing kit, all the gaskets, seals, bearings, labor, or even the custom Partee spec extreme tolerance pistons. We do not build a ton of profit into our engine builds; we exclusively use the best parts you can buy, and they add up FAST.

As I said above, part prices are through the roof. Our cost for the Daily pump and oil pan setup is approximately $9000. The good news is that we have club-race motors that have been in race cars since 2017, getting their teeth kicked in by their drivers weekend after weekend without ever having an issue. It is a robust and potent engine.
^^^. I've gone down this route, when you add up everything you have the piecemeal the final #'s make sense. It's just not a cheap endeavor (the very reason why people go FI). One of my best friends sent his GT4 to DeMan for the 4.5 setup and relatively speaking, the prices were reasonable especially when you factor Porsche tax in. But it was considerably more than one of these S54 builds after you tally the "while you're in there's" so you really have to be committed to the platform to justify it. The discussion is only an option because the E46 is worthy of it...

            More like future-proofing than restomodding!
I think when you combine the fact this car is so good already with the aftermarket offerings that continue to come out, you can really make something special without having to spend house money. I love the latest wave of restomods coming and think the future of cars is looking far better than anything exotic OE's have to offer, but the base 70's & 80's cars they are doing were nowhere near as good out of the box.
