    E46 M3 DCT Conversion

I've been curious about this conversion for a while, was reading up on old threads. I saw this:
BMW DCT Swap Kit for M50, M52, M52TU, M54, S50, S52, and S54 Engines This kit makes it easy to swap a DCT transmission onto your BMW M5X/S5X series engine with minimal modifications. With no adapter plate required, this kit simplifies the process while ensuring optimal durability and performance. The included starter adapter allows the original M5X/S5X starter to function seamlessly once bolted to the DCT transmission. The high-end flywheel by Clutch Masters features a critical sprung hub design, essential for clutch basket longevity, while the starter adapter can be optioned for either Gen1 or Gen2 starters. Starter Adapters: Gen 1: For use with M5X/S5X-series starter motors Gen 2: For use with N5X series starter motors Modifications Required Transmission Top Holes: The top two holes on the transmission need to be slightly widened using a dremel. Starter Hole Adjustment: One of the starter’s threaded holes must be drilled out for use with a through bolt. What’s Included Billet 6061 Flywheel: Lightweight and robust for high-performance applications. Heavy-Duty Sprung Hub: Essential for protecting the clutch basket and improving drivability. Crank Bolts: High-strength bolts for secure installation. Starter Adapter and Hardware: Precision components for seamless integration with the DCT. Why Choose This Kit? No Adapter Plate Needed: Simplifies installation for a cleaner, more efficient swap. Critical Durability Features: Sprung hub flywheel protects clutch baskets under high torque. High-Quality Components: Manufactured by industry leaders like Clutch Masters and ADAMAT.

Anybody done it/knows somebody that's done it? What DCT is used?

Its not a "difficult" swap, but it has some challenges that are may be hard to overcome in a daily driver street car

The big question is how are you planning to control it? To my knowledge there is NO good controller that will work with the stock DME so if you want to run the DCT you are going to have to swap the DME as well.

Early on there were a lot of issues with the aftermarket flywheels. That was a combination of the flywheel design/manufacturing themselves and the controllers. Since then I haven't kept up on aftermarket flywheels, but if I was going to do it I would use a stock (8) DCT flywheel. Last I saw there were no aftermarket replicas (LuK, Sachs, Etc) and because they only came on early production N54 in the non-US market the chances of finding one second hand are low. But its a known quantity which is worth the expense IMO.

There are (2) DCT versions E9x and F8x, the difference essentially being the gear ratio. E9x is 1:1 7th gear and F8x is overdrive (I can't recall the exact ratio).

Shipping that to a paying customer is pretty wild. Even my test benches that only ever saw my desk were more road worthy

Holy shit, if those are pictures of the box they are shipping that dude posted, just wow, I guess its just a test system but still, shit solder job, probably shouldn't even have used solder there anyways. Looks like my first radioshack black box experience.

No context from that email but seems really...weird to say the least, wtf is going on over there.
