I've got a Powertrain Industries driveshaft too. Picked it up from bimmerworld. Description says brand new (no rebuild), not sure if it's the same thing as you guys, or they've changed things up. No experience yet, as I haven't driven the car much, but for under $900 for a new driveshaft and now fuss Iam pretty content.Originally posted by bigjae46 View Post
Powertrain Industries
My modified driveshaft for an E46 M3 with a 5 speed is 6 years old. I've had to replace the CSB and CV joint - I'm sure they used an aftermarket part.
Euroconnex sucks so much. It's best to just find who makes the part you want, and just buy it directly from the source or someone else. Just circumvent him altogether and avoid the BS.2006 E46 M3 Interlagos Blue ZCP SlicktopBuild Thread: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...6-m3-ownership

Let me say, i do not want to put words in the mouth of this manufacturer. To me, the explanation they gave was that having play in the diff mounts was enough to have movement that allowed the driveshaft to impact the tunnel above 2k rpm. Im not going to pretend that i have enough knowledge in this area to speak confidently. I will say that as far as the problem that i had specifically, they came to a conclusion i consider amicable.Originally posted by tnord View PostI'm curious who exactly they think they'd sell this thing to?
At least in some racing regs (including one I used to serve on the rules board for), bushings are not "free" and cannot be modified from stock. Even if I had a track/DE car I don't think I'd put solid bushings in the diff since I don't like the whine. I'm glad they were reasonable to work with, but "for racing applications only" seems like an after-the-fact-excuse for not really doing any real world testing on the part.
I dont think its unheard of to have an aftermarket part require complimentary mods, but i would expect that to be written in the desription. Perhaps that is what they meant. Again, im iust relaying the interaction i had

I understand your sentiment, but as i said above, i dont think its unheard of for an aftermarket part to require complimentary mods. I know most of us on the forum have bought a single part only to learn that actually, it needs more parts to be used. 30+ years of modding cars has taught me that at least. But, i do expect them to indicate that, so that i can make an informed decision.Originally posted by bigjae46 View Post
I'd be offended by this if I were a racer. I'm sure race applications would want the driveshaft to fit like everyone else.
i did in fact expect it to fit like any other driveshaft, and it did fit. But it did not perform the same and to that end, if the solution they have found is removing movement in that way, then ok. But race applications routinely do not fit like normal and thats a determination each buyer has to make. But if you dont have that info, you cant. That was my sticking point, they agreed and we worked it out
i believe thats a fair deal.
and now, we all know and can make a more informed decision either way.
