There are maybe two other threads that ask this question and they mention the paint code used for a spray can from the auto parts store.
I've done this about three times and always had good success and I wanted to share my steps and the products I used and showed that before and after as well.
None of this can probably hold a candle to anything that the other guy on this forum the professionally refinishes them does nor is it meant to.
But it's just one of those small projects that if you have a few hours it's pretty easy to do and yields satisfactory results.
I used Dupli-Color store and gray metallic BGM0522
I'm the meantime decided to dig in my parts box and refurbish this beat up ZCP steering wheel trim and pop in a spare red M track mode button from accelerateddistribution I got a few years ago.
I sanded the trim pieces with 220 grit in hot water and the finish came off very easy..took about 15 min start to finish for both upper and lower trim pieces. Then I wet sanded with 2000 grit to get rid of scratch marks.
Used primer first. Few light coats with 5 min between next coat. Gave 2 primer coats.
Then waited 20 min and used duplicolor BGM0522 storm grey metallic and it was a near perfect match to an existing Titan Shadow shifter trim piece I had to compare to. Against 5 min between each light coat and did 3 coats of base
Waited 30 min for clear and repeated above process and let it cure over night
Looking forward to getting the steering wheel from coby in soon and work on wiring up the M track mode button for DSC.
I was very surprised to see how close of a match it is to an original trim piece.
