    Engine Misfire with no codes.

Was on my commute to work in stop & go traffic when all of a sudden the engine misfired and the check engine light activated. Engine sputtered with barely any power on acceleration. Check engine light goes away and the power returns to normal. When I got home to scan it there's no fault codes on showing up. Is this possible symptoms of a bad coil or is something else is going on? Car has 65K. Camshaft position sensor "intake side" replaced 2 years ago. Vanos is original.

I would say replace the coils and spark plugs see if it comes back

Yea I guess that would be my first approach. I'm just a little baffled there's no fault coming up on the scanner.

Probably has pending codes. Not all scanners will display them.

I have a scanner with pending code function as it shows nothing in that category as well.

I would clear codes, although there are no codes, and reset adaptations. See if it comes back. Then throw plugs and coils at the car if it does.

Recommend getting INPA and using it to scan for faults/codes. IMO it is an essential diagnostics tool for E46s.

So just wanted to give another update. Took the car for another spin tonight and gunned it on the highway and sure enough the car stuttered again, this time the check engine light is sustained. Pulled over to the side and scanned the ECU. I'm now getting code P1347. Misfire on cylinder #3, fuel cutoff. Should I just replace all 6 coils/plugs or more needs to be investigated?

If you wanted to do more diagnostic before replacing, you could swap #3 coil with another cylinder and see if the misfire moves.

That said, if you have no record of when plugs and coils were last done, I'd say just do them.

Is it worth the extra cost going with the Dinan coils or should I just replace with Bosch?

I'd go with whatever is OE

I replaced all coils to eldor when one coil went out back in 2022, I haven't had any issues so far almost about 29k miles ago.

but these seem higher priced now than they were back in 2022

weird thing it doesn't list E46 M3 on FCP fitment list, i think it used to.

How does the Delphi stack up against the Eldor? I'm currently looking at this Delphi set that includes the NGK plugs. Definitely not cheap though.

I think I have a set of Turner coils that saw maybe 100 miles of use. I had these on my LSB for a second and then had Dinan send me some coils for my S3R build.
