    Cam impulse sending wheel DIY

Say I was interested in replacing the impulse sending wheels at the back ends of the cams, which the cam position sensors use to sense cam position. Is that easy to do once the valve cover's off? Can I do it without removing the cams from the head?

Nah, think you’re def gonna need to remove the cams...they can be a real bitch to remove sometimes.

Blargh, yeah I guess it would be pretty tight to get a wrench on the end plug screws.

The reason I ask is that the wheels themselves are cheap to buy, so I was thinking about replacing them next time my valve cover's off. On the very very off chance that my hard start problems are happening because maybe I somehow very slightly bent one of the fins on the wheels last time my valve cover was off (which coincided exactly with when my hard start problems began). Figured I'd do it for peace of mind if it was easy, because I'm really fed up with my hard starts and have no idea what else to try.

Sounds to me like a great excuse to get some new cams

Hah. Yeah.. I had that thought. But honestly the thing that's stopping me from going all the way and getting cams for this car is there are a few little things, like my hard start issue, that seem at this point impossible to resolve and really, really bug the shit out of me. I don't want my perfect forever car to start shittily for some unknown reason for the rest of my life, even if it is running great in every other way. So if I can't fix it I'm honestly just gonna sell the car and get another one that starts properly and makes me happy, and drop cams into that one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

U can get it out fairly easily.

No need to remove the cam you just need a hex bit and a (gear) wrench.

Hmm, well maybe with this anecdote, I'll buy the parts and have them ready in case they are accessible with the cams in.
