    CF Sunroof Delete Questions

So I have been debating deleting my sunroof since I got the car. Whoever spec this thing new was confused I believe. Silver Grey on Impulse Cloth, Manual seats, and no cold weather package. But they got a sunroof and NAV, HA!

So in my pursuit to be a little more CSLish I want to shed some weight. Not gonna drop thousands on a CF roof as this isn't a prestige example and isn't worth the investment.

However, a CF sunroof delete seems like a good idea. I was looking at the Bimmerworld offering and was going to have it vinyl wrapped in a gloss clear to protect it.

Anyone have experience this these? Any insight on brand and pointers?

No experience with the BW one but I am sure it would fit well.

I used the AJ hartman piece and fitment was perfect. It comes clear coated.

I'm about to put in an order with AJ. They told me wait time these days is 4-6 weeks.

I want to remove mine because I literally never use it and could use some headroom with and without the helmet.

I heard some decent reviews of the s2rtuning panels. They have a fiberglass version for half price of AJ. So if you are going to wrap it anyway, might be a decent route.

      Youtube DIYs and more

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

Go with AJ Hartman. Also got mine from him. Fitment was perfect and seem gap was pretty small. weave was perfect. But I had it painted.

Yikes. Bimmerworld sells the S2R panels so you would expect better quality. That makes the cliq tuning panel look good.

Is the AJ Hartman carbon fiber sunroof panel meant to just replace the glass or is it mounted in a fixed position? Can it still be opened?
Is there noticeable increase/decrease in noise or vibration? Does the interior sliding roof still work with it?
Any leaks in rain? Does it come with seals or gasket?

Ordered an S2R panel, should be here soon. I ordered it 3-4 months ago though. :/

It doesnt just replace the glass, but entire assembly and the panel itself mounts to the roof where the sunroof cassette would screw in.

I don't know if they include a sealant of any sort, but normally guys install it with black rtv or some other 3m products to make sure it doesn't leak.

No you will not be able to open it, the panel gets screwed into the roof around the perimeter and sealed "permanently". You can remove the entire panel later on if you wish, but you can't operate it like a sunroof.

On nvh, from speaking with friends who have done it, there is nothing of note. You can get a slicktop headliner if trying to gain more headroom, otherwise you can reinstall the original headliner to help with insulation, but you will have a hole there.

I have the S2R panel. Fit was like 9-9.5/10. Minor gripes but overall everything lined up and went right in. Took like 2-3 months to get it before COVID lol.

That AJ Hartman piece looks real nice.

That Bimmerworld one looks awful and also doesn't look like the S2R whoever said it's that one. All of my holes lined up, I used self tapping screws in the rear (into the sunroof xbrace), and it has black trim around it like the factory sunroof glass. Unless they changed the style.

My shop used window sealer said the black rtv I supplied would not have held up under UV.

Thanks for all the replies the AJ seems the best. Does he do 1X1 or just the 2X2? All my exterior CF is 1X1

Pretty much everything he sells is made to order. Just email him i'm sure if he has 1x1 in the shop he'll make it that way for you.

Yeah I was surprised because it should be the S2R since he makes them for Bimmerworld.

See his list of authorized vendors:
