CSL Carbon Airbox & Intake Assembly Questions

    Hello everyone,

I have a brand new OE CSL airbox and intake assembly. I am eventually looking to sell this, but I am having trouble getting accurate pricing on what it is worth. What I am finding are out-of-stock listings or old classified ads. Hoping there is a guru here or someone who knows the market for these. Thank you!

    11617833496 — Carbon airbox / intake plenum

    11617833497 — Carbon unfiltered-air housing / outer shroud

    11617833498 — Intake snorkel / flap assembly

It's not an easy item to sell, there's a small market for people that care about it, 99% of people go, and are definitely better off with Karbonius.

All the pieces can still be purchased new, so it isn't some crazy NLA item.
Price new at BMW is around 6800 EUR now for these 3 together, that's 7600 USD.

So if you can sell it for around that, that saves a potential US based buyer some money on shipping and tarriffs, everyone wins.

Don't believe for a second there's a 10,000 USD+ market for these, there is not.

Actually, put it on bring a trailer, the parts section, stuff goes way overpriced there, if you do, I will delete my message with the valuation

I figured it was a specialty item, with some aftermarket competition. I was considering throwing it up on Bring a Trailer and seeing what happens.

What I don't understand is the OEM pricing. If you were able to get the cheaper unfiltered air piece shipped to you with a VIN #, the total OE cost that I can find is $8,753 plus tax and/or import duties. So maybe all in for around 10-11k brand new? I would assume that my 3 pieces tax-free at 8k +/- would be a reasonable ask, but not if, and in fact, as you stated, they are $7,600. Do you mind showing me where you found the parts for that price? And thanks for the info. It's very much appreciated.

The dealer quoted $10,000, not including taxes/duties/shipping. Must have the CSL vin to order the parts, and there is a 2-5 week lead time, parts coming from Germany.

Edit: Previous number was actually the wholesale price

The issue is that only a collector is going to buy this. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze with Karb boxes in existence. So I agree with bmwfnatic, put on BAT. Will reach a wide audience, or post on the usual channels and wait until the right collector comes along. Ask 10k and negotiate from there. You’ve already got numbers in mind. Go with it.

As to the correct worth, that is dependent on the right people looking at it. I can’t it see being worth anything much more than a karb box, but I’m not collector. Hence BAT.

I am in Europe, what I quoted is the raw price, without the markup of third party resellers.

A CSL vin is not required to order CSL parts here.

                      Interesting.

Yeah, those links were just random vendors online, with only one requiring the CSL VIN. The BMW dealer does require a CSL VIN, at least on the state side.
