I had this issue too. I ended up just ordering / making appointment to install on costco's website and it worked.

Also I guess its different per costco cause I had the wheel weights that go inside the barrel, not the clip on the side on the front of the wheel.

Just got a set of PS4S from Discount Tire Direct. Free shipping and no tax. A day after I ordered they had a flash sale of $100 off, which they honored. Took them to the local Discount Tire and all in was just under $1,100. Cheaper than Costco.

I've had a costco scratch up my rims before as well. However, Ive also had discount tire scratch up my rims on multiple occasions. I recently found a good Costco service center and the manager makes sure they dont beat up my rims any more than they already are. The take home lesson from this is that any random service guy can scratch your rims. if youre worried about the condition of your rims, wash your car before going in, take pics of the rims before hand, warn the service manager that you'll be inspecting after and that these rims are ~$800 a piece to replace, then inspect BEFORE you drive the car!!!!

Ive also heard that most places no longer zero their own balance machines and have to hire a tech to come out and zero the machines. This costs money and most shops will attempt to go 6 months or longer without zeroing their balance machine. If you drive spiritedly, youll immediately notice when they mess up the balance. Having them rebalance the tires also gives them another shot at scratching up the rims and leaving the tape from the weights all over the inside of the rim

Even the place I took my tires to, which was well-known in the local grassroots motorsports community didn't remove the old tape. However 30 seconds with brake cleaner gets it off real easy:

Yup, just nicely let the manager know you took pics before and ask them to be very careful is all it takes.

I've always been the one to remove old tape as well. Generally used goo-gone or wd40 and a green scotch brite pad, but its take some time and effort. Will give brake cleaner a try next time!
