I appreciate everyone's help so much! I'll check INPA ews log if I can figure it out thanks mpowrd and NZ plus thanks for the pics, but I have no idea what I'm looking at It'll be hard enough navigating inpa to find the ews section and find what happened when attempted.

Is there a limit to the # of keys you can have?

Will my current transponder give its freq Egone?

    Thank you Rosie, seems like

    1. Check INPA. If it says something to the effect of disabled (what I originally was hoping to hear), I can fix it if I can figure out how to via software, but
    2. If bad key, and I can find correct freq transponder and reinstall in current key, great or buy new, either via dealer for $170 or piece it all together for less, but I'll prob just buy a dealer key tbh.

      10 keys is the limit.

All the EWS 3.3 transponders are the same.

It’s the remotes that have different frequencies 315MHz vs 433MHz
It should say on the back of the key what the frequency is.

I successfully programmed my key with the AK90 programmer and would be happy to help do yours if you still need help!

Thanks! How did you know that that was what you needed?

From this thread. It was a new key from a third party seller. After re-reading, I'm not sure AK90 will work with non-virgin keys.

Ahh. I've yet to check ews logs in inpa. I tried with the schwaben/foxwell bmw specific tool, and while it has an ews section, I couldn't find anything useful.

Similar issue here. Did you end up with a resolution yet?

For what it's worth, I bought a new key from a dealer on a Black Friday deal. When I got it, I went to program it using the Bimmerworld link posted before. I had a scenario where the old key and the new key would alternate between starting the car and not. I took me several tries using the multiple key procedure to get it so that both keys would lock/unlock and start the car. Now, both are perfect. So, while someone earlier dismissed that procedure as being only for lock/unlock, I can tell you that in my experience in December, it impacted both lock/unlock and starting.

I just bought another key. Still haven't programmed it yet. Hoping for no issues like Jared had above.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet, too, then. Hmmm

For what it's worth, I reached out to my local dealer here in Portland a while ago about a replacement key as I only have one key to my car. They quoted me ~$220 for the key and all the programming. I just to show proof of ownership.

I paid $158 (edit - it was $158. Lowest price I could find without discount is $170) with BMWpartsstore iirc or bmwmini store. One of those dealer's online shops. That's the lowest I could find. Got free shipping and no tax with BF deal iirc.

Didn't you still have to get the key programmed or did they do that all with just your VIN?

I provided DL & reg via email I think. The end user still has to do some basic communications programming once they receive the key. They provided an instructional pdf.
