    Carbon Fibre Wing Mirrors

Has anyone fitted a set of carbon fibre wing mirrors? If so, could you please confirm what the finish and fitment is like?

Also, if you have pictures of them installed on your car, please do share.

No experience but also had never heard of that company until you linked to them.

They make some interesting stuff. I'm curious about fit and finish as well.

    - Carbon door cards (the whole thing).
    - Carbon A, B, C pillars
    - CSL rear armrest
    - Carbon door pulls/handles
    - Carbon OHSHIT handles

    More assorted goodies here:

          Well…

I checked with the Crest Automotive and they confirmed that they are no longer available as the manufacturer doesn’t make them anymore. Crest can do a laminated version but at a cost of £1,127…

Laminate isn’t for me so I checked in with Carboproject, who were known for selling them back in the day. Carboproject confirmed that they can make a set of carbon fibre wing mirrors, however at a cost of €2,200…

I may check in with Karbonius though to see if there is appetite at more reasonable money…

            Rene wanted $2200?? Damn.

Karbonius won't be any cheaper I can assure you that. Not to mention Ana doesn't like to facilitate special requests to begin with.

I tried to get a carbon roof for the X3M made and they blew me off. And they're a sponsor.

€2,200 which is ~$2,470 at today’s exchange rate.

Can’t comment on Ana but David might be interested. Let me check in with him.

Carbon fiber looks kinda tacky on this car. Although, there’s gotta a better solution to pillars than the current OEM offering.

Including carbon roofs? And intakes? And center consoles?

To the contrary, carbon seems very fitting to me, given the rise of its prevalence with the CSL ushering in the first carbon roof. If carbon is over done (put on every square inch), then like anything else, it's starts to look like tinsel. But generally speaking, I really like high quality carbon on an E46.

EDIT: corrected "canon" --> carbon. Phone typing sux.

I’m going to go against popular belief. Yes to all of the above. It’s an old car, it’s not fast. No amount of carbon, weight reduction, tuning or parts can make it fast. It is quick enough. It is a great joy to drive, but the older I get the less I like any “upgrades”. My daily driver will obliterate my m3 in every metric, except for weight. It’s a porker.

                    but

Huge fan of your build. Don’t be mad haha.

                      Lol!!!!

I actually like that this forum people can have opinions and not get exhiled for it.

With the weight reduction I've done on my car, plus the go fast parts, my car will hang with an M2 CS in a straight line. I have a buddy with one (he also has a 1M, that SOB!). My car will also out corner his M2 because it weighs hundreds of pounds less.

I was just having this discussion with another forum member. It's hard to argue against the performance of a new car if speed is the only thing that matters.
But man they all feel just so damn bland to me. They feel like they are doing all of the hero work for you... because they are. There's a numbness to them that simply doesn't exist with the E46 M3 that's been breathed on a little. Investing in the right parts with the right chassis tuning and coupling that weight reduction, it is always going to benefit the car in every possible metric.

That said... I fully understand your point. Also, the amount of effort and time it takes to elevate an E46 M3 is enormous. But to me, that's exactly the point.

                          Agreed.

As this car ages, and clean examples become more rare, it's interesting to see the different ways people view and maintain these cars.

There's a small group of people that think this car should be left stock, or mostly stock, and just restored to it's early 2000s glory. They don't need CSL parts, or fancy intakes. Just the amazing platform BMW gave them.

Then there's the CSL crowd. They think the sound of the CSL intake at 8,000 RPMs is akin to the sound of God himself speaking, and wouldn't have the car any other way. No exhaust, just sweet sweet intake noises. And of course, the obligatory CSL bumper and trunk.

Then there's the track rats. They see this car as a RWD manual NA powerhouse, that dominates any modern trash with it's analog steering and lack of nanny equipment. They're not wrong.

Then there's the maniacs. The guys who spend eye watering amounts converting the E46 M3 into their own personal Mona Lisa. No part is too expensive, nothing can be compromised on. They are building their car the way BMW would have built it if bean-counters and profits weren't in the picture.

                            It depends how it's done.

Don't forget the CSL came with carbon fibre parts from factory.

Man, I have to say I have zero interest in a fully stock E46 M3. I think the M3's sitting position isn't that great. If the seating position in an X3M (a freakin SUV) feels more like I am sitting in the car than on top of it vs the e46, then something aint right. Having said that, I've always been an OE+ guy though. So less is more for me. Hahah but luckily I am one of those CSL fanboys, so "less" is subjective I guess in this case.
