    Blower motor

My blower motor’s squeaking. I verified its the blower motor and not the computer box blower to be sure.

Does anyone have experience with any of the options available? I saw the Hella and Mahle/Behr look to be quality alternatives but checking to see with experience. Or just go BMW brand?

Mahle/Behr is fine to get. It should be reliable for many years. Good luck because it's a very annoying job.

While you're down there, I'd seriously consider doing this as well.

FYI If doing the blower motor resistor, avoid getting the Meyle brand. From my personal experience on my 03.5 M3, the Meyle unit was a bit too large and wouldn't 'clip' into place like the OEM one. I ended up using the Rein brand on FCP euro and worked fine. No experience with the Hella unit though.

I don't think it's THAT bad. It's right under the cabin filter. Thankfully you don't have to pull the dash.

When youre taking out the plastic housing it really helps to make some extra room
            1) Remove the plastic engine cover
            2) Also the metal arm that connects to the windshield wiper can be moved out of the way by activating the wiper and turning it off midway

It's about easy to average difficulty for a blower motor. The hard part is getting the new one back in and not dropping anything. Certainly more logically placed than many Audi's and Mercedes.

Is the squeaking caused from the motor failing? Or can I just try to lubricant something?

Ive read of people using WD40 or lubricants only to have the noise come back relatively soon

Correct. On the old M3F there was a thread of people who had repaired/replaced it. I recall every person the followed up after a lubricating it had it come back within a few months. The bearing (bushing?) just wears out after a time and that's it.

After replacing mine a second time, I ordered a Behr from FCP euro for those sweet sweet replacements. The first one was an OEM part (but for a Z4? I remember there being some guidance on m3f from back in 2011 about the z4 blower motor being the same part but cheaper)

Some history: 9/02 build, blower motor first replaced (by me) in 2011, then again in 2018.
