Sell the E36 and 996, then buy that E90 M3... or if it were me I'd look at a Civic Type R to daily, and track the E46.

I’d take the e46 over the other two. Sell the e36

You'd be surprised at how far your limbs (including your head) can reach in an accident.

I know. but could the GT3, M3 GTS, etc come from the factory with a back half cage if it posed a significant risk? I'm not looking to start another debate on it, and I do acknowledge that there is *some* potential risk of injury in a crash that you could come into contact with the roll bar.

Those safety regs are probably only as rigid as the people who enforce them. Probably WAY more flexible than we like to think hehe

I don't remember the 991 half cage from the factory, but I know the 997 didn't come with one in the US because of DOT regulations.

Doubt this. Even die hard Porsche fanboys hate 996’s. Plus it’s ugly to most. Like the post above, the 997 killed whatever advantages the 996 may have over a modern 911 (991+). If I want a smaller more engaging 911, I’d go 997 for not much more than a 996.

The 996 GT3 is the dark horse of water cooled cars. I've heard from a few people who have cycled through a 6 GT3, 7.2 RS, 991 RS, 991 GT2 RS, etc. and the 996 was a high moment in that.

I don't think 996s will ever be worth more than 997s. My point was that 30-40 years from now, when they're all slow compared to current cars, 996s will be involving sports cars whereas 991s are more... GT car that lacks steering feel, and that may end up having less long term appeal.

Whoa I wasn’t thinking 40yrs from now lol. I’d be 70 yrs old lol. I was thinking more 15yrs.

The appeal of smaller, simpler, and more engaging cars is at an all time high with enthusiasts. My point is, the 997 will prevent the 996 from ever becoming more appealing than even the 991.

                        996, 997, 991. If I can choose two, $ aside. I’d have 997 and 991. I don’t see any appeal of owning the 996 between the 3.

I'm a huge Porsche fan, even considered selling my 46M for a 997 GT3, but nothing about the 996 does it for me... sorry.

Can appreciate the sentimental value though...

                          Keep the Bimmers.

                          BTW, how much for E36?

I think you would be silly to sell a 996 that you got for free right now. It is costing you nothing to hold on to and "COVID money" is pushing 996 prices up much like the E46 M3. If you want to sell wait and maximize your sale, again, it is costing you nothing.

As for the long term values of the 996, people are turning back to that generation for the same reason people turn back to the E46 when there are more capable generations available. Some people like to have a more connected feel with the driving experience and the 996 gives that for those people. Just in my short time in the Pcar arena I've seen a lot of people going back to these cars. You never know, a nice example of the first water cooled 911 with a connected driving experience may just be what people are looking for.

There is always the option of slapping an LS in that bizzach and having some fun.

If you're happy with the E36 and how it performs on the track, keep it and sell the 996 and E46. Purchase something nice to tow the E36 with. I like the Q7 and SQ7.

Just remember, if you end up selling the E36 and want to get back into one, you start from zero.
