Tire sizes for stock style 67 wheels on track?

If you had to use OE style 67 18” wheels for a couple of track days and wanted the best tires size to avoid understeer/have good handling, would you go with stock sizes 225/255, go something wider on the front like 235/245 (limited by 8” wheel), or go square 245/40 front and rear (10 mm narrower than stock on the rear)?

Im trying to balance wanted more tire up front with going to wide on the 8” rim (pinched/weak sidewalls) with marinating same diameter front and rear.

The widest you probably want to go on 8"/9" wheels is 235/255. Any wider, especially with summer tires or "streetable" track tires that tend to be wider, and you will have sidewall issues.

What tires are you looking at? It can also depend on the tire make + model. Tire Rack is great for having all the specs listed including tread width.

I am running 265 on square 18" Style 67s. I can't say I've pushed the car to it's limit but have also had no trouble at all with this setup.

I would go 9" square with 255/40 around on track

Ok so you guys put the rear wheels (9”) on the front? Is the offset ok, do you need massive camber or are you ok on the street?

I think it could buy 2 rear 9” wide wheels and them on the front, was just worried about offset. Thanks.

255/40 square on 18x9. Yes you can put rear wheels on the front, that is the common "cheap" track setup (without moving over to arc8, etc).

              Tires I’m considering are PS4S.

255/40 would be a good fit. Tire Rack lists tread width at 8.7”. 245/40 has 8.4” tread width.

From my experience, 255/40/18's will rub up front when I was testing square fitment although I was stock suspension when I tried. Not sure if camber would help with this.

Camber will help with outside of the tire rub on fender. If you are going on track you want some camber.

If you are on aftermarket suspension with stiffer front spring (I know you said you are on stock), that can also help.
