    Parking/Emergency/Hand Brake Refresh DIY?

Will be doing my rear rotors and pads in the next couple weeks and figure it will be a good time to replace my parking brake shoes. The car has 112K miles (I've owned it for just over 1/2 that) and the shoes have never been replaced to the best of my knowledge.

I have a mildly sloped driveway and the car will slowly roll unless I firmly engage the hand brake. I've had my shop adjust the cable in the past and think it's probably just time to refresh the system.

Does anybody have a parts list of what to replace other than just the shoes? Found some generic e46 DIYs on YouTube, but nothing here in the forum... so a parts list and a link to a DIY would be helpful.

    TIA!

I completed this on a regular e46 but I think it’s the same and these are the parts I think you’ll need.

Thanks. That kit doesn't fit per FCP Euro. Their kit that does fit is backordered w/ no ETA.

ECS Tuning has a kit but it's an add'l $100. Looks like it includes the cables. Are any of the parts in either of these kits overkill?

You probably won't need the sleeves, adjusting screws (just repack with grease, they are two pieces), expanding lock support, expanding locks, or cables. Just did mine a few months ago.

I'd get the cables, only $30 extra. Id get Cables and shoes, the rest of the stuff doesn't really wear out, you'll see when you open it up.

If it's anything like the non-M and you live in the rust belt, replacing the cables is a PITA. When I did my handbrake rebuild I could've done it in 3-4 hours, replacing the cables took another day and a half. The cable sheathing gets completely seized inside the subframe and is basically impossible to remove

Emphasis on this. My car is a Colorado car that was driven through a bunch of winters and I had pretty much no issues getting them out. They're in there pretty good, but no seizing.
