Are you missing a "k" after "5", or do you literally drive it 3-5 kilometers a year? Collectible?
    Youtube DIYs and more

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

I change it once a year around april with Liqui Moly. That's usually under 1,000 miles on the oil. I think last year might have been about 500. but I start her up once a month in winter and let her idle for 20 min or so. it is kind of a waste of oil but still necessary to change it once a year.

Once per year before winter storage in November, driven between 2 and 4k miles annually.

The e46 M3 has two significant failure modes, that can cause you a LARGE expense if you wait for them to fail instead of addressing them preemptively. I would very much suggest locking down the VANOS bolts/tabs and the subframe BEFORE you have failure-- see post 4. This thread will be broken down into 3 sections 1. When to do

Once per year. Its not my daily driver so I have yet to clock more than 6000 in a given year.

Change oil around 5k miles or so. Drive the car about 5k miles a year. Mixed use for occasional daily driving and weekend drives.

About every 5000 miles for me (like lots of people here), but I drive mine a lot more, did about 15k in the last year as a nice weather DD and road trip car.

My M3 is track only (trailered). I probably average 1500-2000 track miles/year. I change it at the beginning of the season and probably do 2 changes during the season...about 500-700 miles. Now, on my wife’s M3 which only sees one track day a year, I change it once/year which is probably about 2500 miles.

I don't think it was the engineers who made that call. It was probably some rich piece of trash that has to hire someone to show them how to use a blender
