    Clanking noise

I’ve noticed a light clanking noise. It’s sorta like a metal or tin noise like when the chassis or suspension is under load. Turning into my driveway (uphill) or going over bumps as slow speed. Sometimes I hear it when I move the car up a feet and I only hear it at low speeds. It’ll only clank one time, it’s not a constant noise. It sound like it’s coming from the rear of the vehicle.

I have Kw v2 coil overs and I recently changed the guibo, center bearing, and power flex rtabs. My RSM were never changed (or at least I don’t remember).

    Thanks in advance.

I have the same deal, it happens every time I back out of the garge. Its just after I turn the wheel slightly to come out of the garge at a slight angle, not an alarming noise, but I notice it every time.
I guess I figured it was something to do with the rack as its when I turn the wheel.

I know you said it sounds like it's coming from the rear, but check the FCABs. Mine made a similar noise when they were shot...low speeds over bumps and going over slight pitch changes at angle (i.e. leaving a driveway).

Pretty much every E46 M3 I've been in and owned has this noise that you're describing. Including my current one which I've replaced every rear end and driveline bushing. I believe it comes from the diff. Wouldn't sweat it.

        Current:

        1997 BMW M3 - Boston Green/Modena
        2003 BMW M3 · Coupe · 6MT - Alpine White/M-Texture Alcantara

I had one for the fcabs replaced back in 2016. I told the shop I wanted both replaced and they were being stubborn about it. I was thinking of having both replaced .

          thanks.
