Fix the sunroof or carbon fiber replacement?

Trying to decide if I should replace the broken sunroof cassette or go all out with the carbon fiber panel?

Not sure if a used cassette is the way to go since they seem to brake. A new one is listed at $1125.15 at ECS.

If anyone has done the panel DIY, how many hours did it take you and how much did it cost you ballpark? (Seems to be labor intense).

As a side note, I don't really like sunroofs and I hardly used it when it was functional. It is just annoying to have it and knowing it doesn't work.

Note sure on your budget but when I bought my car with a sunroof my plan was always to go CF roof if there was any issues with the sunroof. Every car I have ever had with a sunroof has ended up with some kind of issue... I ended up getting a CF roof panel for a steal and was unemployed for a while so used the time to get ahead and do the job... which meant I could sell my sunroof bits as they were still functional given I hadn't waited for them to fail like my original plan.

I personally think any money you spend on fixing or replacing the sunroof... unless you love the sunroof or aren't into your E46M3 for performance, is wasted money...

IMO a CF insert in a street car is pointless. I have one in my track-only M3 and would never remove the cassette from my street M3.

Most important question is how much do you like the sunroof? I like mine but at the price of new parts, CF roof 100%.

I don't like sunroofs period. I guess money and time to get the sunroof panel out and get the CF panel in is what it comes down to.

You can find functional used parts for pretty cheap. That’s what I’d do.

I looked around a bit in my area and was actually at one junk yard to pick up a cassette. Unfortunately it was cracked.

Look at track builds. Most won’t list the cassette because of the shipping expense.

You can have mine, but I can't see location on Tapatalk so don't know where you're at. Charlotte, NC here for anyone reading this that wants a functional sunroof.

The problem with the sunroof even in a street car, at least with the stock power seats, is that there is zero headroom with decent proper seating position, and I’m not even that tall (5’10). I’d probably keep it if it wasn’t for that, especially as only a beginner track driver. It has to go though, so cramped feeling compared to my E39.

You can have mine as well.

I am in Hendersonville, NC. Car had only 57k miles when I replaced it with a CF roof. It may be easier to ship individual parts since the complete assembly is a PITA to ship.

I agree, I only need the cassette. I really appreciate it and pay obviously for shipping.

It's so damn big, awkward, and obviously fragile I can't even imagine shipping one. But definitely jump on that 57k mi one if it makes sense lol
