Close the sunshade and remove the sunroof switch and voilà..you just did a “sunroof locked in” mod. Now drive car without the OCD tapping you on shoulder since it’s a “mod”.
If it was causing a problem/issue that’s another story. But since you don’t ever use it don’t worry about it.

I don't mean to jump in, and I definitely don't want to interfere with the OP of this thread picking up one of the cassettes that were offered, so if any are available after he grabs one, I am in SC (Mount Pleasant) and would like to find a good low mileage one used within 2-300 miles of 29464. Please PM if you have one avail. I track my car, but I also love the Sunroof, and would like to replace my failed cassette.

Hey I got your PM and was going to test mine to make sure it works before I respond. I may be coming down to Charleston soon anyway so delivery might be on the table!

No worries, Shipping to Dallas from SC is probably as much as the cassette. I am happy if you can get yours fix.

Considering the types of sunroof systems, every car I have ever had with a sunroof has ended up with some kind of issue. I ended up getting a CF roof panel for a steal and was unemployed for a while, so used the time to get ahead and do the job, which meant I could sell my sunroof bits as they were still functional given I hadn't waited for them to fail like my original plan.

I personally think any money you spend on fixing or replacing the sunroof... unless you love the sunroof or aren't into your E46M3 for performance, is wasted money...
If you rarely use the sunroof, a carbon fiber delete panel is a solid long term solution because it eliminates future sunroof problems. A new cassette is reliable but expensive, and used ones can fail again. DIYing a CF panel usually takes a full weekend and $100 to $300 for materials, depending on quality.

If you're OK with it looking like trash...sure, one weekend.

Given the quality of sunroof deletes and the prices of a nice CF roof, really makes a lot more sense to just do the roof. Sure, I make coupe sunroof deletes but it won't be 100% perfect. To make producing top notch deletes worth the time and materials, prices would be $500 and up.
