    GC Coilover headaches & new coilover choice

    I have been having issues with my GC coilovers since last year when i replaced the leaking DA shocks with the damping adjustable shocks from GC as they recommended those as a choice. Being cheaper i went for the non DAs and the car rides like absolute shit. My wife commented and asked WTH happened to the ride as it used to be butter smooth over humps etc etc. Basically the best riding car we have compared to the GOLF R and X5M. I am so sick of it as it is making me very very angry and upset and I just do not want to deal with GC any longer. Being all the way in Bahrain they dont really make things easy for the customer and having to ship shocks back and forth is very expensive and time consuming.

    So I have decided to ditch the GC's altogether and go for something where replacement parts are easily available and I dont need to send in cores etc....And this is where I need advice from you guys...

    The end goal here is to have a nice smooth but comfortable ride as the car is now 90% street and has CMP solid subframe bushings with PF RTABs (which i'll be switching out to OE RTABs with limiters for more comfort). Getting older i prefer a smoother comfier ride than the bone jarring ride i am getting now with these crappy GCs.

    Ride Height is 13.5"/13". At full soft the car rides stiff and shit.

    I can't comment on any of these but I just installed some TCKline S/A coils on my car and I love them so far. Really smooth ride. Might be smoother than OEM haha. Quality is top notch too. Something to consider. Tons of great reviews on these!

      I would get pss10 or kwv3 and add linear springs and camber plates Ejaz. Pss10 would be cheaper, gc plates are amazing, or tms, some 60mm hyperco/eibach/tck vvs springs. Would be like $2400. Tck s/a would be great too.

        I've had KWV3, PSS10s, and FA Mullers on my e46m3. For a streetcar, I'd go with the PSS10s, they were fantastic! I do like my current FA Mullers - they're extremely adjustable and you can order them in any way imaginable, but the PSS10s are just great out of the box. They're also quiet, use all the stock mounting hardware - I loved them. The reason I went with my FAs is I wanted something a bit more track-friendly.

          I would rather not go to any coilovers which are Koni based any more. I am just majorly pissed off and put off. I was so proud of the M3's ride before, everyone commented that it was amazing and so many people purchased coilovers from me. Now my own car rides like crap, so i need to get this resolved but I will not be dealing with GC any more or TCK either as its still the same koni based custom spring principal.

            Hey Bro, That exactly what I am leaning towards. I will remove the GC plates from my current GC coilovers and hopefully they'll fit the PSS10's The biggest issue right now is the Bilsteins are back ordered till July 2021. FML.

              Yes Sir i am pretty sure i'll go with the PSS10s, the only issue is being back ordered till July 2021 none of my suppliers can take the order.

                I would assume your GC stuff right now is 2.5" Billy is 60mm bottom perch, but natively uses stock size upper spring perch. So you'll need a stock size upper perch from GC to make it work OR a 60mm upper perch from GC if you want to run linear race springs.

                If you use the stock size, progressive springs that KW and PSS10 come with, I've found that a bigger F sway bar, even on mild settings, really helps with turn in as the springs are soft for that first little part of compression (on the outside wheel) as you turn. Linear springs don't behave that way (though you still may want a bigger bar too)

                  Yea Sir I was thinking I’ll need to get those 60mm perches for the GC plates, already have Eibach Sways front and rear so will adjust accordingly. The problem is I have to wait till July 🤣

                    Glad you posted this. The street car has tired PSS10s (50-60k miles), and I was looking into possibly replacing with GC coilovers. I may just end up buying a new set of PSS10s.

                      Shit happens. Hotchkis on medium is not that stiff. Been running mine for a few years now with "soft" 325lb springs.

                        You can get GCs but my experience After replacing shocks is shit as I was not advised correctly. One thing I have never studied too much is spring rates etc until
                        Now and now I’m really annoyed that I paid for brand new SA shocks to replace my DAs and no one at GC asked me for my spring rates etc,

                        Plus for some reason the front shocks wouldn’t fit right and they turns out they sent me wrong ones and the replacement ones didn’t fit 100% but they did if you know what I mean. Then after that every tine I turn the steering wheel it makes a freaking sound which is coming from the camber plates but we have no idea what it is as the camber plates have been completely rebuilt. It sounds like the springs moving to be honest.

                        In practice I would not buy replacement parts for GC if they went bad, I would sell them and buy a new set of GC or something else that has replacement parts of the right specs available. That’s what I skills have done instead of spending under 1k buying the new shocks.

                          If you can afford a few more bucks JRZ are super nice and fair priced, been rocking these for a year and wow they are twice what my old KW3 were, so get on the APEX website and customize your.

                              If you're willing to spend more, the Ohlins Road & Track kit fits your needs perfectly. Not as expensive as JRZs either.
