Sorry for huge lax in updates - life gets busy!

I had a small amount of rust bleeding in the driver side door skin at the bottom fold joint under the door. So I decided to send it into the body shop to get that fixed.

while the car was there…. Had front carbon bumper beam installed & TMS CLS front air dam installed as well as Status Gruppe carbon rear CSL deck lid.

Then car looked so good - I sent it to Unique Car Care north of Boston (Danvers) for 3 stage paint correction and ceramic coating.

Wow - pics don’t do the car justice, the guys at UUC are amazing & they loved my car. They said everyone coming in the shop that week walked past the $250K Ferrari to check out my car - made me feel good. Car is SO much easier to take care of.

So my HVAC system lost its mind - time to replace the final stage resistor (again).

I’ve got some used ones in the attic from my M3 wagon project - so I’ll try one of those first.

What is the issue with the HVAC system?

I basically won’t do anything you want…. Fan speed & temp control are lost - sometimes fan speed goes up, then down. A/C blows cold, then doesn’t. Will work fine for days, then go skitzo again.

Since yours is an 01, you will have the older IHKA module (climate control panel). If it is resetting the fan speed and temp back to default all on its own, it could be that. You can also read the module for codes using INPA.

Thx - I’ll put my code reader on it before I buy anything.

Any updates on codes? I replaced my FSR last year, but now my symptoms are 1] actual fan speed does not change with control button pressing 2] the entire control unit will just turn off, but I can turn it on later; all fuses are good. When the HVAC is OFF I hear this noise from he HVAC box, suggesting something is running, or attempting to--damn near thought I had a mouse in there!

I hope it's not the IHKA, and just the fact I cheaped out and put a non-genuine FSR in it.

My HVAC has been behaving the last 2 weeks, so I haven’t dove in to pull the codes yet.

I just dropped the car off at the shop for paintless dent removal - that’s another story…

The updated IHKA unit is pretty cheap used. Also, it is an easy unit to swap out and test if you have another E46 around.

I’ve got two 2004 HVAC units as spares - what elements would change?
