Ross' Alpine White E46 track build

Hi all! Checking in from Michigan, very happy to have this forum. I have a 2003 M3 in Alpine White which is almost exclusively a track-rat at this point. Purchased it around 2 years ago and have been building it up ever since. Currently used just for HPDEs, but working towards a Time Attack and/or NASA/SCCA class racecar.

Based on your sig... I'm going to need to request pics of that new Raptor. Do you tow the M3 to the track with it?

I do! The truck is heavy enough and easily has enough power, but the springs and dampers are soft so the rear squats pretty significantly. Looking into new leaf springs and bump stops so i can use an enclosed trailer.

that a nice trailer! where did you purchase it? I am in the market for one as well. I am getting tired of driving the car after a hot track day with those track tires.

That's actually a rented U-Haul trailer, which i wouldn't suggest if your car is lowered - the "trays" for the tires have a lip that is high enough to interfere with parts underneath and rip bumpers off...

Nice build Ross! I too have a Magnetic Gen 2 Raptor towing an Alpine White M3 haha. Would you happen to have a pic of where/how you mount your AIM SOLO 2 DL? Mine is on the way and I want a good idea of where to mount it.

Woo - sorry for the super long delay - I use a suction cup mount and place it just to the left of the gauge cluster. My steering wheel is smaller than stock so visibility is a bit better. It's a great spot to keep your eyes up, but still see splits and predicted times

Been a long time, lots of updates in the last few years. First, I finally landed on a clear direction for the car, time attack. It scratches my itch for a challenge, with competition and continuous improvement. Gridlife Street class rules seemed to fit my build specs better than either SCCA or NASA, so I focused on that. Unfortunately, the car is horribly outgunned in the class as it is now, with the front runners being 4 cylinder turbo cars that can easily hit 400+whp with a flat torque curve. Evos, STIs, CTRs, 718s etc.
Still, I enjoy the challenge of trying to improve my own times each year and am typically the fastest NA car in the class.

Car has changed in a few critical ways. Now around 340whp, depending on the day & dyno

Power:

• Installed Turner CSL intake & went full MAP conversion from kassel
• Added Supersprint headers and section 1
• Recently installed Schrick 288/280 mild lift cams
• Rebuilt vanos

Handling:

• Rebuilt dampers
• Nearly all bushings and joints are now delrin or spherical
• ATS 1.5 way carbon hybrid differential
• BMW 4.10 final drive gearset
• Took out a few more non-essential parts, ~3350lb with driver

I'm relatively happy with the balance of the car right now, other than always wanting for more power and torque. I've had two events on the ATS diff and 4.10, including Road America, and it did not hinder my top speed as much as I expected. In fact, gained some mph, likely from being able carry a few more through the corners. The diff is a huge improvement over stock. Lock up is extremely progressive and you can feel it really fighting for traction and distributing torque to the outside wheel. Needs a few more events to fully break in, I think, but so far so good.
