Replace EEPROMS: Is this a thing?

Others have had issues being able to bench flash my ecu back to a prior hardware version. I have been told is likely a problem with my EEPROMS? Can these be replaced, or should I simply eat the bullet and buy another ECU?

I don't know how skilled you are at circuit board soldering, but I wouldn't want an ECU soldered by me.

I had an ECU go bad on my M3 wagon. I bit the bullet and bought a new one.

Obioban Thank you. I figured that was the case. Definitely not skilled enough to risk it on the ECU...

Could always take it to an electronics shop. They're not crazy hard to solder, just a bit finicky. It's 20 year old tech anyway.

I have a frankenstein DME with jumper wires running all over the place from me experimenting with it and it still works just fine

Yes, they can be replaced but the issue is finding a good source since these EPROMs have been obsolete for quite some time. Anything you get now is a knock-off, but then again it's pretty old tech and not too overly complicated to manufacture, unlike some of the stuff we have today.
